Y'all know what I mean!
great postnogster wrote:this is my detailed comparison of both games on xbox.
now that i have played both. live much more extensivley but i have played 2k6 full on all weekend.
graphics and presentation.
2k6 has got some great presentation ideas. the halftime show which recaps in highlights the players of the half and then at the end for the player of the game. this feature is cool as. live has more statistical overlays during game time which is always gives that good authentic feeling.
the cameras on both 2k6 and live are hit and miss. the 2k6 broadcast camera works fairly well but also blocks the action from the top so at times u cant see the player shooting from downtown. the other camera options are fairly limiting. with side being the best when it comes to showing the whole court. i have never been a fan of the behind camera.
lives camera that i use is much further back and the players look a lot smaller [or court bigger]
i think the player models on live are far superior. 2k6 players look bulkier and have small head syndrome.
both games have decent visuals.
winner....both. 2k6 seems more detailed,. but i like lives as much.
features.
i wont go into much detail here. we all know live has allstar weekend and 2k6 has 24/7. they both even out. association seems deeper than franchise and to be honest i havent looked deeply into it. i only play seasons. not interested in running a team and having the cpu do its own thing with other teams. i like my league to mimic the rosters and attributes of the real season.
create a player.
live craps on 2k6 from a great height. 2k6 is still using the same CAP system from the original 2k. very limiting. and to make it worse. there is a hair glitch. where only in replays will your CAPs hair be there. during game time its a completley different cut... stupid. and annoying.
but live has an annoying glitch in its CAP too. where every CAP can dunk regardless of ability.
gameplay.
this is where it all counts.
and this is coming from someone who has played the guts out of every bball sim released [bar the gamecube and inside drive series] since nba showtime 94.
both games have their good and bad points but i like live better and the reason is......well it goes against the collective beliefs of many reviewers and critics. live is more realistic...
all i hear when people compare these games is that. if u want a fun run and gun arcade dunking game. go live. if u want a hardcore sim where u have to use your noggin, go 2k.
i dissagree.
i have customised the heck out of live. every players attributes has been changed and my sliders are tough as hell, the game plays as tough and realistic as i have played on any game. it obviously isnt perfect. but 2k6 is far from being a sim that its supposed to be.
offense.
2k6 is geared for offense. defense is secondary. yet lives offensive game is superior. because of freestyle and the controls are far more responsive.
freestyle beats the shotstick hands down for intuitve controls. the shotstick is decent. but no way near as responsive. crossing over is responsive enough but live has it down pat. its so intuitve on live. 2k6 is clunky.
also. its wayy to easy to score inside on 2k6. this is with slider adjustments. all u need to do is get around the key which is easy considering there is no physical D in the game. then shot stick and bam u more often than not get a basket, or get fouled and a basket.
proof
. i just used a CAP with low inside scoring ratings and layup ratings and in 1 10 minute Quarter, scored 23pts on 9/11 shooting just getting into the post or key and shotsticking it. regardless of difficulty the shot dropped or i got fouled. this was on superstar as well. using a pg. u can score inside all day long. as there is no physical D. u can drive and not get obstructed at all. this isnt what happens in the nba.
live on the other hand. other than some superstar moves which can be cheap at times is tougher. I struggle big time with my sliders to score inside on layups or dunks unless i am wade or lebron etc.... i have it set that if u drive in traffic, prepare to get smashed and either get fouled, or throw up a crazy brick. i have more success hitting mid ranges or short shots than layups. and this is what makes the game so challenging. to the point of frustration at times as it is jsut so hard to get easy layups in the half court. exactly what nba coaches preach.
also. lives shooting feels more real. it doesnt feel like luck when u hit a shot. 2k6 is pretty good too but again. its way too easy to score inside. the cpu and myself will score 75%+ of points in the paint on a regular basis.
what 2k6 has over live is the playbook. they have heaps more plays with diagrams. and teams use them.
winner...live. although 2k6 once u are used to the clunky system is pretty good.
defense.
2k6. what defense. for a game thats meant to be a sim,. it sure lacks in this department. there is no face up D, the rip n strip is basically freestyleD without the face up or hands up options, which means it isnt as comprehensive.
but more imortantly, there is no physical lock down d to speak of. drives can get to the basket with ease and when they go for layups etc. they wont be stopped. unless blocked.
and there is no defensive sliders other than pick success and strength and steals. thats it. no physical D. no cpu assistance.
in fact. lives sliders system is so much more comprehensive. thats what makes the game better. u can adjust it to your liking. i live hardcore D first sims. and 2k6 lack in that department.
winner, live.
the main thing that has really turned me off 2k6 is the lack of control u have over rosters and how u want to play hte game. i like to control all teams rosters and lineups. u cannot do that in 2k6 unless u play exhibitions.
in summary. if u want compete control over your nba experience with all the bells and whistles included. no limits. live craps on 2k6. but be prepared to put in the time to customise the game and sliders to suit u.
2k6 is comprehensive and u can customise a lot. just not as much.
live out of the box may play like a fun arcade game but at its core its a hardcore defensive oriented sim. 2k6 starts out like a hardcore sim with the general pace and control but the more u play, the more u see its not as realistic as its surface shows.
both games have their glitches and gameplay faults. [live has the out of bounds backcourt shot, the players running out of bounds etc.] 2k6 has the players without the ball running out of bounds and the dunks through the backboard. etc]
but imo. live is the way to go.
pheww.. that was long.
