Not Reading DBF File?

Postby PirateJohn on Thu Feb 23, 2006 7:02 pm

I am editing the .DBF files for Teamgear and Teams in Microsoft Access, but for some reason the game isn't reflecting the changes.

Specifically, I tried to edit the team name of one of the teams, but the name I entered isn't appearing in the game. Also, I edited the same team's uniform so the lettering should appear horizontally instead of arched, but it still appears arched.

When editing dbfs, it's best to save a roster and modify those files, since you can easily re-load it with the changes.

Thanks for the response.

I suppose, then, I don't understand how to load the files, since the game isn't even reflecting that I've made any changes at all.

Save the rosters through Load/Save, modify the dbfs, then re-load the rosters from Load/Save.

I must be doing something terribly wrong here... I assume you mean use the load/save from the Options menu inside the game, correct? I just can't seem to get my changes reflected in the game...

Is there a newbie walkthrough for getting the .dbf files to be incorporated into the game? All of the tutorials I've seen so far have been very good at telling me how to change the .dbf files, but nothing about how to get the game to recognize them.

Basically, what I'm trying to do is create Olympic teams, but instead of adding teams to the database, I'm editing the existing teams. So right now I'm changing the Philadelphia 76ers into the US team. I was able to create and add a new jersey to the game with Jersey Raptor, and the new file is in the game, but things like changing "PHI" into "USA" just aren't working so far.

Again, thank you for all your help, but I guess I'm more of a newbie at this than I thought. I wish EA Sports would add a Creation Center to this game the way they did to FIFA.

Which files are you editing? The easiest way to edit a roster is as follows:

1. Save a roster file through Load/Save in Options
2. Make the changes to the dbf files in the appropriate save folder
3. Load the roster from Load/Save in Options

Aha! I see what I was doing now...

I could only find one teams.dbf file because I didn't realize the save file was in my "My Documents" folder instead of my "Program Files" folder. I was editing the wrong file this whole time...

Ah yes. Common error since they moved the saves to My Documents. ;)
