Problem with portraits and logos

Postby ShAuN on Sun Feb 19, 2006 5:10 am

Ive talked to Cable guy alot, he helped me out with the jerseys.

Im having a problem, Im trying to make an Andray Blatche Portrait and someother ones. I do exactly what Cable Guys tutorial says. I export the .fsh and put Blatches pic in there. I make the background light blue. I save as a .png.

Then I go into FshX and import it, but you can see the light blue. Im having trouble with that on everything. Can someone help me out???

Hey shaun, got your message. It's my first time doing portraits too, so I had the exact same problem as you. There's probably an easier way to do this, but here is what I did:

Open a blank 128x128 image with photoshop. Drag the image you want in there. Resize and relocate the face so that it will be suitable for the portrait. Then use the magnetic tool around the player's face. Right click and click "select inverse." Right click again and then click "layer via cut." Then on the layers menu, just drag the background and layer 2 to the garbage can. This should leave you a transparent background. Clean up the picture, save it as png file, open original .fsh file and import your new .png file in there (you'll have to type in the .png filename), then save.

Like I said, I'm probably doing it the wrong way, but it works.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for responding, but I dont have Photoshop thats the problem. Im doing the EXACT same thing though. I use this blue:

Image

I cut the players head out for the portrait. And I use that blue background. I put the players head in it. For example, I save as AndrayBlatche.png. Its saved as a .png file. I go to FshX and I open the old pic, I import the new one, but the blue background is still there for some reason.

I did the same exact thing with the Jersey Portrait Cable GUy made for me, I finally figured it out. I use that blue as a background for the jersey and it worked. But this one wont. It wont for Logos, and portraits. Any other suggestions???

You need a transparent background for the PNG file. Erase the blue background. If you have PSP 8 or above use the 'background eraser' tool.

Windows Paint is the worst program to patch with. You have very few tools to work with. Buy a program that supports layers. Adobe PhotoShop and Paint Shop Pro are the best options. Both have free trials. Irfanview and The GIMP are two free options.

It's not a tool. Make a new image 128x128 with a transparent background, then put the pic on top of the bg, but only the pic. When you save it as a .png, transparency will appear to be a different colour because there is no colour for transparency.

Cable Guy

Im doing exactly that. Im using Paint, and Photo Impression. But its not working. What color should I use? That light blue you used for the Jersey Portrait right?

First, you can't do transparency with Paint, so that's a lost cause. I'm not sure about Photo Impression though.

Second, there is no colour for transparency, as I've said many times. Because you're using Paint there's no way for you to see something that's transparent for yourself. Download The Gimp, it's completely free, and then try to make a new image with a transparent background.
