Is the NVIDIA GeFroce 5500 128mb good?

Im going to most likley get this card. I was going to get a 256mb one but I dont have the money. Its for a PCI motherboard anyways. But is it good for the game? Or should I just get a 256mb?

Is $40 too much for a 256mb?

I just ordered one from newegg.com yesterday. I have ordered tons of stuff from them before, they are more than reputable.

At that speed (PCI) 256 isn't gonna do much vs 128.


My suggestion is you get a new computer. You won't be able to run the game on high, or even medium settings.

I just realized its for a PCI, so that card I showed you won't do you any good. Just go to newegg and shop around you can find one for around $50 that would do a decent job.

If your motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot, its time to upgrade.

AGP's are out out of date these days, PCI-E is the best there is nowadays, of course i still run AGP, theres only a few good nice AGP cards out now, the 6800 GS and the X800XL, though i know the 7800 series is coming out in AGP. Those are the only production ones that they still make, and i know you can still get some 6600 AGP's, the rest of the AGP's out there arent any good anymore, they're out of date.

You can run BattleField 2 on full GFX with an AGP video card.... you can't run it at all with a PCI video card.

if you want to run battlefield on total high without any lag on an AGP card, you have to have a 6800/X800XL or better with 2 gigs of ram and a good processor. With BF2, its all about Ram and Videocards, i have 2 gigs of ram, yet only a an Nvdia FX 5200 (which shouldnt run the game) and i can manage low settings fairly smooth. You can get 6200's in PCI that run the game better than i can because its a better video card. I know a guy that has a 6200 PCI and only 512 mb of ram and he runs the game smoother than i do.

Right... But AGP is 3 or 4 years old (mainstream, top mobos from 2000 and 2001 had it, but thats it)... PCI is really old school.

My dad's laptop has an ATI 9700 on it and it runs BF2 on max.

Basically, if you have PCI... you NEED to upgrade.

If you have a decent AGP card (ATI 9600 or Nvidia 6200 or higher), you can wait maybe 12-18 months if you have a decent CPU and 1gb of ram or more.

Theres no way your Dad's laptop can run BF2 on high with good FPS with a 9700, its just impossible. Maybe you can put one or two settings on high, but theres no way you can max it out and get anything above 20 FPS.

3.4GHZ, 2gb RAM.

I run it on high at 1024x768 and get between 35-50 FPS.
