Offensive Rebound Theory... Anyone?

Mon Jan 30, 2006 4:46 pm

I've been testing the offensive sliders. Only on 5 minute qtrs, so its not conclusive. But I think I'm either hardcore tripping or onto something.

I use Heik's sliders, and insted of setting offensive rebounds to zero, I've been finding that the higher I set the rating at the less offensive boards I've been seeing.

Like i said, I haven't put this theory thru its full paces, but is it possible that EA fucked up, and zero is actually 100 and 100 is actually zero for offensive boards??

EA did something similar in NHL 2000 with the sliders.

Anyone know what I'm getting at?

It could be. I have my offensive rebounding at 0 and Joel Pryzbilla got 17 rebounds and 9 were offensive rebounds. Then Zach Randolph got 6 rebounds..and all 6 were offensive.

and what do you think are the best slider positions for realistic off. rebounds stats ? I'm using CPU/OREB at 40 and CPU/DREB at 75 and it works really fine.

CPU grabs 0-20 off. rebounds. OK sometimes they grab around 25 which is still too much but I won't complain 'cause it really has something to do with the way you play defense.

It seems to me the bigger problem is the jump rating and offensive awareness, mostley OA. Try cutting OA in half for all forwards and centers, and devide O-rebounding by three, the play a game and see how it turns out.

MAN!! i think you really have something there !! in my opinion your theory is right. I used 70-80 off. reb slider for cpu in super star difficulty and cpu off reb droped from 40 to 10 in a half.. that's great.. thanks a lot..

Wed Feb 01, 2006 11:46 pm

hmm
gonna give it a try

Thu Feb 02, 2006 12:12 am

yeah I'll give it a try, too.

I don't like tweaking players.dbf too much cause it really affects simulated stats...

So I guess with lowering OFFAwareness and OFFReb ratings for C/F I will have a shooting guard in first place for most offensive rebounds at the end of my season.

Sun Feb 05, 2006 3:40 pm

yea i once had duncan grab 24 rebounds in my game 16 Offensive!

Mon Feb 06, 2006 10:11 pm

(Y) you are damn right I tried your theory it worked, I set the rating to 100 and even the easiest of rebound they were like avoiding to grab the ball thanks a lot man

Mon Feb 06, 2006 11:26 pm

grerat find man (Y) (Y) now i can enyoy my game

Fri Feb 10, 2006 3:32 pm

so we set both cpu and user rebound for both offensive n defensive to 100? to make it most realistic???? plz help.... :D

Mon Feb 13, 2006 1:31 pm

come on plz reply, so both offensive and defensive rebounds should be set to 100???? to get realistic result??? :D

Mon Feb 13, 2006 2:18 pm

nonsense!!
If you want to get realistic rebound result ,you should set on ball defence up to around 65,and off reb 0. 8-)

Try 75 DEF and 15 OFF, for some reason I get less than just having it on zero ...

I have 1 for offensive rebound and 99 for defensive rebound for both cpu n user, giv it a try, i m still figuring if this works well but it seems ok for the first 2 games i played, although i still think this gives me a little bit too much offensive rebound for both user n cpu, giv a try plz... :D

So is it true? The rebounding sliders are BACKWARDS?

Wed Mar 22, 2006 3:18 pm

They're not backwards.

Wed Mar 22, 2006 3:34 pm

The raw number of offensive rebounds shouldn't be a concern, it should be the proportion of offensive rebounds to defensive rebounds. According to ESPN.com, the average NBA team grabs just under 30% of its offensive rebounding opportunities (own off. reb. + opp. def. reb.).

I've tried some of the commonly-used sliders, and I've found that the number of FGAs is a lot higher than league average (about 79 per game), even if you try to take your time and use half court sets. The problem could merely be your own game pace. I've played quite a few games with both sides' Offensive Rebounding at 0, and Defensive Rebounding at 100, and I usually hold the computer to a much lower percentage than 30%. I'm even considering raising the CPU's slider a couple of points. On the other hand, I usually grab a lot more than 30%. The player's Offensive Rebounding might be overpowered (beyond the control of sliders), but the CPU's might not be.

Thu Mar 23, 2006 12:46 am

Andrew, are you sure?

I played a few games with computer offensive rebounding at 100 and they only got around 3 per quarter. I think it IS backwards! I'm confirming what others have posted above.

I'm wondering if it is just the offensive rebounding slider that is backwards.

Are you guys using 100 Oreb and 100 Dreb?

Thu Mar 23, 2006 11:08 am

I'm pretty sure. The same thing was suggested with the Arcade/Simulation option in NBA Live 2003. It was a placebo effect. Unless the rebounding slider is now representing difficulty rather than volume but in my experience that wouldn't seem to be the case.
