How exactly does this player development and staff thing work?

In NBA Live 05 you could basically buy a coach for a specific thing...like a rebounding coach. When you select a player for the coach to work with is that basically the same thing as buying like a rebounding coach in NBA Live 05?

Also, since you cannot do in-season training anymore, how do you exactly improve your players? I have gotten messages to my PDA saying that certain players are getting better at certain things even though I have not had my assistant coach work with them.

they took out dynasty points in nba live 06 and instead they give you money to hire an assistnat coach, trainer and scouter, at the end of the off-season... during the regular season you go to gm desk and then go to team staff... then go to assist. coach and then you can train whichever player you want on either off, def or athletics

the cpu trains your players season long, even if you dont tell the assistant coach to train a certain player
