Postby brian_313 on Tue Nov 08, 2005 9:16 pm

Actually, it is possible to create custom plays on the PC version but you need to have an understanding of the plays.dbf. I created a custom play a few years ago, and when I recently installed the playbooks from Playmakers I looked in the plays.dbf and noticed it is not different. There is a basic triangle offense play I think its called triple threat, but I could be wrong.
In the plays.dbf there are lines and each line corresponds to one frame of a play. In each frame for offensive plays there are columns for each player pg,sg,sf,pf,c. These columns determine the position of a player during that frame of the play(x,y). If I remember correctly the boundaries for the court are like -50 to 50 or -40 to 40 for both X and Y.
I created a play on an older live where three players would line up on the baseline and another player would run out of bounds behind the players and cut close to the last player. I was trying to get the guys defender to get picked by the standing players. It worked one time, but another time the cutting player would get stuck on his teammate. It really takes tinkering and creativity. I haven't messed with plays recently, but if my memory serves me correctly, X position is side to side with -40 being to the left of the basket 40 being to the right. Y position at -40 should be directly under the basket and 40 should be near the halfcourt line. These are just guesses from previous experience. Also, each frame is a set amount of time predetermined, so if you wanted a player to speed up you have to make a bigger coordinates change in the next frame. I don't know how many frames a play can have but I'm sure you sould do enough frames to have a 24 second moving triangle.

HOWEVER, there are other values on each line that determine who passes/receives or shoots the ball and the values to the far right are extra pass possibilities for that frame - something like ALT1/ALT2 where you could put in PG or SG under the column.

This is my understanding of the plays.dbf and I know that it is possible to make your own plays but it takes work, and alot of writing or typing. You really have to graph it out with a diagram of each frame.

Pick a play where you know what happens, something simple and try to edit one thing in that play to see the outcome. Only problem is you have to save your playbook, start the game, try the play, end the game, edit play, start game, try play, yadda yadda, yadaddy.

If anybody wants to share information, or collaborate on creating just the triangle offense, pm me, or reply in this thread.

Ok i'm playin the 96 bulls on the PS2 (created).

no triangle offense but the closest are:

Boston - if you're the PG pass to the player to the left shoulder, the PF runs from the right side to the FT line to set a pick for the PG, just like ROdman does on the high post setting a pick for MJ.

Mid Power - the center and the SF are arranged in a triangle with you at the left shoulder the C on the post and the SF on the left shoulder, the PF is on the left shoulder while the SG is in the right corner. you can pass to the C or to the PF and give it to the SG

dont know if that makes sense but i tried...
