how do player stats translate into player ratings?

how does an nba players real life stats and averages get changed into a 1-100 rating?
is there a formula?


as in.... if 85 ft rating means the player shoots 85% from the line...
what does 80 fg mean? (is that a 40% shooter?) what does 80 3pt mean?(is that a 30% 3point shooter?) how do the ratings translate into shooting percentages?

what about the other ratings?

1-100 is a huge range for steals or blocks.... 0-4 or 5 per game average per player?
what do these ratings really mean? can someone post how EA gets these ratings? rebounds?anything?

there should be a fg% indicator next to the fg rating meter in CAP mode.... same with the other stats....

If you knew this, creating and editing players would be a lot easier. My guess is the cream of the roster makers will have a good idea.

We (roster makers) use our own formulas, and it's nice to see different ratings systems. I prefer to use a performance per minute based stats, but maybe another patcher prefers to apply the formulas in another way.

EA dosn't realy go by stats, part of it is scouting and another part is giving players ratings that will be popular with fans.

there are stats-to-ratings conversions out there, probably as many as there are patchers. I've posted an early version of mine back in '03, and if you seach the patching forums a lot of other people have posted theirs too.
