The Live series will always be like ice hockey because....

Canadians develop EA sports games. Thats why Fifa sucks. And NBA. Canadians know nothing about these games. They know nothing of making good simulation TEAM sports games. The only games they succeed at are individual sports, like Golf, Boxing, etc. Its like they excell at individual sports games (which doesnt require as much AI work) but once more than 2 characters are thrown into the mix all fails. They cant even get their own sport (Ice Hockey) right!

Note the only team sports game worth anything in the EA roster is Madden. And guess what. IT AINT DEVELOPED BY EA CANADA (its Tiburion in Florida).

You wonder why all the characters from Fifa and Live skate all over the floor like they on a ince hockey rink? Cuz Canucks produce these games. They no nothing of Soccer or Basketball. At least the Basketball sim shoul dbe done by Tiburion or an American developer. The US has the most top basketball players in the world. Let a European/Japanese company handle FIFA, they know way more than Americans or Canadians ever will about the game.

Konami needs to start a basketball video game franchise. Winning Eleven series is so ahead of fifa its not even funny. If they tackled basketball in a year they would make a game that would shit all over Live. Compare the animations of Winng Eleven versus FIFA. Fifa is a joke.

Konami did have a basketball series called NBA In The Zone. I bought it one year on Playstation because it was the first game to implement a Dunk Contest. Obviously it isn't made anymore because it sucked compared to NBA Live. Then there was NBA Action which was decent but still failed when attempting to challenge Live. So far 2K Sports has been doing good but still Live has the biggest following

You do know that a Canadian actually invented basketball right? And that there are Canadians in the NBA? There's one I can't quite remember...oh yes, Steve Nash. You know, the MVP. So yeah, we know more than you think about the game.

Do you honestly believe that EA Canada is comprised of only Canadian-born and bred developers? There's more than a few Americans in there as well.

I've bought a ton of EA games over the years and what I've seen in the last few years is a new number on the cover and a gimic that's supposed to make the game "new and improved". It's one reason I switched to the 2K series for most of my sports games. EA just hasn't been able to keep up with the depth of other games and they always seem arcadey to me. I've given EA another shot this year and so far so good with NBA Live 06.

i've posted something similar before, and yes, i agree that the winning eleven series blow away any other sports sim AI ever, but it seems a little too harsh saying the cause for the game beeing so unrealistic is that the developers are from (insert any) nation. the developers from live from 95 till 00 were from canada too and i think those were quality games at the times they were released. i don't think it has something to do with their nationality.

using your way of thinking a brazilian or argentinian soccer game should be 100 times better than WE, since brazil and argentina are 100 times better playing the sport and everyone plays it around here.

it all boils down to the talent from the developers and their will to put up a simulation-like game. and i'm pretty sure that the lack of realism in this series has a lot to do with the basketball game itself. 90% of the people that play NBA live would be really frustrated if they could dunk the ball 3 times at most with the same player in 48 minute gamesm making less than half of their shots, step into the key and get fouled or bumped away, etc.

ok I was taken to literally. Ofcourse the developers have people of different nationalities. My point is EA Canada as a developer suck donkey balls.

This is what sperates Fifa from Winning ELeven. Winning eleven IS like that. Games typically have low scores and alot of missed chances. That is the game. If we wanted an arcade we could play NBA Jam. NBA Live should either go fully arcade or fully sim. There is no inbetween. Trying to compromise results in garbage like the Live series and Fifa. Live started heading in the right direction since 2002 but they took a step back with all this new crappy superstar nonsense this year. Instead of working on better player movements and better AI they are making it more like NBA Street. They just dont get it.

well said. I find it really funny that there is a "Dunk" combination in the sticky. Are you playing a NBA simulation game or playing NBA Street Volume 06 with different super dunk combos. hilarious  Superstar is junk in my opinion , I sincerly feel pity for all the PC simulation NBA gamers

No, you just don't get it. They make it more arcadey because that's what sells. If they made a sim they'd sell about 1/5 the copies just like the 2k series does.

2K6 is nice

Then why all the live fans don't admit Live is unrealistic and arcadish?
There are even posts saying
If you're not going to play realistically, don't make a thread saying...

oh man you aren't kidding about Winning Eleven. It's laughable how much better it is than the Fifa series. I believe FIFA still out sells it though.
Are you sure EA Canada develops the FIFA games? i could have sworn it was made at EA UK but i could be wrong.

Fri Sep 30, 2005 9:30 pm

You're blaming it because of their nationality when not all EA Sports games are made by EA Canada. NBA Live is but not all their games

Fri Sep 30, 2005 9:38 pm

Intresting fact is that FIFA 06 has stepped up to the competition of WE/PES, still not close though. But atleast they show signs of knowing that someone is fucking them in the behind and trying to put a better game.

NBA Live 06 is better than 05 in almost every regard. Even gameplay for those who will instantly respond with "graffics does'nt matter!one!". But it still seems like the team behind NBA Live consequently refuses to see that 2k6 whoops behind when it come to depth, presentation and feel.
Yes, I know, they want it arcady to please the five-year olds that think LeBron is the shit because he can jump like really high. But that doesn't hinder them making a true action-simulation choice for us that wants a more realistic game, or making running plays more valuable, or making dynasty mode more complex and deep.

See my point here? Fifa does get it's ass handed to them by the competition, and is showing signs of trying to make the table turn. But NBA Live on the other hand continues on their own path without even glancing at what makes ESPN a really good game.
