how can I make freethrows?

Hi guys I just got this game and I'm still trying to learn everything. One thing that bothers me is I can't make a single free throw. What button should I press? I tried jumpshot/layup buttons but never once have I made a free throw.

I have computer controlled shooting. Is that why?

Change computer controlled shooting to manual shooting
Then I use the pass button to stop the lines in the square, just practice and over time you will get it down pat
