Questions Before I buy 06

Fri Sep 30, 2005 3:43 am

For those of you that already have it I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me.

1. In Dynasty mode can you change an existing player's hair? For instance last year Luke Ridnour had the haircut that he sported his rookie year when all of last season he played with a buzzcut, and Ray Allen had a buzz cut when he played most of last season with a shaved head. Is it possible to make these changes?

2. How hard is it to consistently hit a 3 point shot does it take some practice or is it pretty simple?

3. It says you can hire assistant coaches, but what about a head coach? Can you fire your head coach or are we stuck with them through all 25 years of dynasty mode?

1 - not sure

2 - Probably you'll need to practice or find a decent 3 point shooter

3 - you can only hire Assistant Coaches, the Head Coach stays the same

I'm still getting a feel of the game, but I'll try to help out.

1) No, not ingame atleast. It was mentioned in the Q&A Andrew set up for the site. They don't have more than one cyberface for each player (no other hairstyles possible). They will "look into it" for the future though. Meaning perhaps we could actually go from the Fro to the Rows with Ben Wallace.

2) That depends on the leve of difficulty you're playing & your slider settings.

3) I don't know that one, I could go check it out, but when I'm done posting. Perhaps someone is kind enough to answer it before I'm back.

Oh, an extension on 1), if you buy the PC version, you can just downloaded patches to update the looks of your players. I'm sure you're aware of the NLSC hosting some awesome patchers from various patchers and then ofcourse there is NBAlive.org & 4th-Quarter.net, who are back after a short hiatus.

If you're getting it for PS2, you can't change the looks of players. You probably knew that though.

Edit: There, Jugs got the coach one.

I'm also about to buy the PC version, and I have some questions too before buying it:

1) How are the fast breaks now? Is it extremly easy to do them or just right?

2) Any notable additions to the dynasty mode?

3) I heard that you can't backdown with a keyboard? People say that button has been replaced by freestyle and there is no longer a backdown/boxout button to configure. I don't want to have to buy a controller just to use the backdown button. I hope that's not true.

4) How much adjusting do the sliders need to be near a real simulation?

Flasher's Qs:

1 - IMO they are just right...

2- The assistant coaches are cool, especially with the scouts and they can scout your next opponent..

3 - It's true, you can not backdown with the keyboard, you have to use a controller (i bought a cheap $15 AUD one..)

4 - I havent really adjusted the sliders and more scores are kinda wacked.. so i think theres a lot of rebounding tweaking needed... check the sliders threads

I'm using Sit's sliders as of now with tweaks of my own and I'm quite fond of the gameplay upto now.

The controller thing is an issue with me too, so I just bought a PS2 to USB thing. That's the only reason I'm not playing the game as I type this.

(1) The fast breaks happen in the flow of the game. So if you're on a 2-1 or 3-1 break, then you'll see your teammates run with you. Big improvement over previous versions of the game.

(2) The hiring of assistant coaches, trainers, and scouts. Dynasty points are now only used to buy shoes from the NBA store. Not much else, unless you consider the menu layout, which is much easier to navigate through.

(3) That's what I've heard too. But I don't know for sure because I've always used a controller. Even if you do end up having to pick up a controller, there are some out there that aren't very expensive.

(4) Varies from person to person. You just have to tweak them until you like what you see.
