DUNK CONTEST DUNKS DURING GAMES!!!! and other things....

Fri Jul 08, 2005 1:30 am

why not have the ability to do dunks from the dunk contest during the game? (minus the lobs to yourself, instead you could do it from an alley oop pass by a teamate)
you would just need to click down on the right thumbstick to go into dunk mode as you drive to the basket, (we use this during the all star game to pass to ourselves off the backboard, so why not?) then hit a takeoff button and a finisher button, using the thumbsticks and triggers to modify your dunk.
basicly, use the same controls you would use during the dunk contest????
this would be difficult during the game, unless on a fast break or unless there was a clear path to the basket. i'd imagine it would be funny as hell to see someone attempt, say a between the legs dunk and then getting an offensive foul charged on them.
of course, this could only be used by a player with a very high dunk rating, 80 or better, with only guys with a 90 or better dunk rating being able to pull off the sickest dunks. (and even the, only with an open lane to the basket, this shouldnt be arcadish, and it should be a lower % shot depending on how high that player's rating is and timing and soforth) maybe this could be used for a dunker type superstar? there are different player types being implemented into live 06, so why not this for live 07?
also player height, dunk and jump ratings should both be taken into consideration when determining what dunks a player should be able to do. sure, they can attempt a twice between the legs dunk, but unless their like 6'6 with dunk and jump ratings that are both over 95, they should get snuffed by the rim every time.
there should be a bail out button (maybe click the right thumbstick again) to try and lay the ball in if the dunk looks like it will fail, or cause an offensive foul) this could also be a pass to a teamate if one is close enough.
like i said, this should be reserved for the elete dunkers in the game, and maybe this same play design could be used for playmakers or stoppers or whatever, give them different passes or whatever...

we need props/ teamate assistance in the dunk contest

customized soundtracks for pc and all consoles that allow it, i have xbox, and i hate listening to rap so i just turn the music off

slider for flashy vs power dunking
this would be for "uncontrolled dunks"(see above) or for dunkers with ratings below 80

dunk rating shouldnt really figure into field goal %

create/ modify a dunk or layup feature.
we should be able to customize dunks and layups the way animators do... we should be able to watch each dunk/layup animation and tweak leg and arm positions throughout the movement, body tilt (and this should affect a difficulty rating for each dunk, say by adding more to a dunk that dunks accuracy will diminish.

fatigue and "hot streaks" should affect actual ratings during gameplay and should be represented. see below

ratings that reflect actual shooting percentages, if the shot is contested, it should drop that % by 20%

fg 99 = 60% of jumpers go in
fg 90 = 55%
fg 80 = 50%
fg 70 = 45%
fg 60 = 40%
fg 50 = 35%
fg 40 = 30%
fg 30 = 25%
fg 20 = 20%
fg 10 = 10%

this should also work for inside scoring rating, as for 3 point shooting.

3p 99 = 50% of 3pointers go in
3p 90 = 45%
3p 80 = 40%
3p 70 = 35%
3p 60 = 30%
3p 50 = 25%
3p 40 = 20%
3p 30 = 10%
3p 20 = 5%

so say, jordan with a rating of 99 fg (yes, i know he's not in the game, but for sake of argument) will hit 60% of his open jumpshots.. (when at full health) but only 40% of those contested, and even fewer if he is tired!

when modifying players to match thier real life counterparts this would really help. and next to the rating there should be a %

more in my next post...

ok, as i was saying

next to each rating there should be something to tell you what that rating equals

fg 99 means 60% shooter (when uncontested)

jump rating should reflect in inches of vertical leap maybe?
next to the rating, list how many inches....

jump 99 = 49 inch vertical? just over a 4 foot vert
jump 98 = 48.5 inch
jump 97 = 48 inch
jump 80 = 40 inch
jump 50 = 25 inch
jump 1 = 1/2 inch?????
fatigue diminishes the rating

strength could be measured simply by getting info in how much each player benches, squats etc... and then using that to determine whether they can rip a rebound away from another player, post them up, or hold thier position during a post up. or even, how far a shot gets blocked???

speed, they measure that on the track... have the rating show next to it that players time in the 40 yard dash or whatever
quickness... well, not sure on that one... its more about reaction time... not sure how to gague that

as for pass, rebound, block and steal
there should be a way to determine how these rating affect averages
next to the rating, a projected average of how many of that particular rating

example:
pass rating 99 = approx 12 or more assists per game (show that formula!)

freestyle determines what dribble moves you do, the rating should simply reflect how often a player turns the ball over, and how effective freestyle is.... this kinda works in 05. a guy with weak handles trys a spin move and woops!

fatigue should factor into these ratings as well, the more tired a player is, the lower his ratings drop.

fatigue should be cumalative
if the lakers play 3 games in 3 days and kobe plays 48 minutes in each of the first 2, by the 3rd game, he's gonna be slower and less effective. i hate that guys dont really get tired. the fatigue bar should (as most fighting games do now) diminish and be replaced, but a small portion shouldnt be restored until that player is rested. a section should stay in the red. if the team gets a day or two off, the health meter resets. this should help make long road trips seem more realistic, and should make resting your players more important.

clutch players, say reggie miller, robert horry... should have a boosted jumpshot/ threepoint rating during crucial moments, say a game winning shot attempt

i think this should be implemented, and would make more sense when creating playes or trying to sim games or whatnot.

if they cant bring back the legends, at least make legends teams with generic players (real ratings and approximate player faces) and the ability to modify the names and heights/builds/ratings.

make all decade teams for each team!!! if we have to name each player so be it, just put the teams on there so we can play the 90's bulls vs the 60's celtics or whatever

have a large name database so that created players will be called by thier real name, not number.

draft legends!
why not be able to, after 2 or 3 years of dynasty mode, to draft legends? start with the 60's and move forward... its the 1984 draft again, do you pick hakeem or jordan? (they only need to have enough info to be able to tell who they are, school, height/weight date of birth ect... clues you see (hell, just have the game tell you what years draft you are doing)
this would be much more interesting than drafting generic players every year

modify rookies! we should be ableto rename these rookies and adjust thier ratings (to an extent) if it looks like mj, comes from north carolina ect... lets be able to make him MJ! edit the looks, get the name off the names database.... please tell me you can have marv albert simply say "jordan" and record it?????

these are my wishes for 07 (so far)
i hope someone sees this at EA

No need to double post like that, please edit your previous post wherever possible. Thanks.

Personally, I think the dunk contest dunks should remain in the dunk contest as many of them aren't exactly realistic. That's just my personal preference though.

i didnt mean to double post, oops

sure the dunk contest dunks are unrealistic, but to have the same system of controlling your dunks during the game.... would be great! i personally hate when the game selects a dunk or layup for you and the ball goes behind the backboard and out of bounds. i'd rather it be my fault i blew a dunk because i tried to do something too flashy.

another thing, dont you hate the stupid alley oop pass where the wrong reciever jumps for it, and it goes out of bounds? shouldnt that player just come back down with the ball? same thing when passing into the post... the big man shouldnt jump towards the ball, away from the basket... just dumb

Sat Jul 09, 2005 12:49 am

As for passing into the post, the passer passes a little bit to the outside of the post player so only the big man can get it, which also happens in real life. It should be faster though, since currently it restricts the effectiveness of manuevering in the post.
