We'll Never Get The Same Attention As Madden...

Sat Jun 25, 2005 9:36 am

I just looked at a preview for Madden '06 and I can't believe how much further ahead it is than live.......the guys at EA seem to put all their time into Madden, then just make other mediocore sports games (in comparasion to madden)........their new feature is the QB Vision thing, but then as a side feature they have that Superstar mode..........if we got that in live we'd be going nuts........it seems madden puts in 4 or 5 brand new ideas every year, whereas we still "Authentic 5-on-5 Gameplay" as a main feature......let's face it, Live will never ever be anywhere close to Madden, and it's a damn shame.

they are five years ahead.

I think Live is years ahead of representing the sport it is supposed to represent(if they would only add coaching-team strategies). Madden's running game and tackling are atrocious and have not been touched since the last gen upgrade I won't even get into the passing game which will nto get better with this "vision cone" stuff.....Madden is by far the least sim like version of any of the games I have played from EA. Sadly MVP Baseball is now there best franchise(at least it has been the game I have enjoyed the most the last two years) but will no longer be made.

Madden is such an arcade version of football it is pathetic....yet it is the best selling game....which tells you something about the game buying populace.

Damn exclusive licenses!!!!

With all the additional Dynasty features that Madden has implemented, it would be impossible for the NBA Live series to completely catch up in terms of depth, and have it all work as it's supposed to, within one year. Though considering they completely rebuilt NBA Live's Dynasty Mode last year, they didn't do a bad job of advancing it with the calendar based offseason, player negotiations/contract offer system, etc. I'm not saying it's perfect or there isn't room for more improvement, just that last year's Dynasty Mode was an improvement over every other incarnation of Franchise/Dynasty Mode.

i gotta agree that live can never catch madden but that does not mean it cant be a damn good game anyway.

I think Madden's gameplay is at a stage where people kinda go "eh it'll do" that's why they can focus so much on what's now become the selling point of the game, the dynasty mode. Despite the fact that personally I think it's hugely overrated, it is better than what we get with NBA Live.

Really I'm kinda happy Live and Madden are separate entities... I'd rather Live carve it's own niche and finally get it right (geez NBA Live 2034 sounds good) instead of just being a basketball version of Madden.

Madden is way ahead of Lice. Live cant catch up.I agree with Jae have Live be different than Madden, so they are not the same.

Also want to note that Madden and Live have different developers, so I don't know if there's some slackers out there, or the development team have never dribbled a basketball in their life. They really need to hire testers, because I'm not impressed with the fancier unrealistic stuff they're bringing back which I'm afraid would be excessive.

Nothing is Impossible if only EA would give more time & efforts for LIVE. Maybe they would catch up for the Next-gen consoles next year.. Hopefully, they won't leave the OLD consoles from deeper improvements.. :(

maybe EA is just paying more attention to the xbox360 version of nba live

Thu Jul 07, 2005 5:33 am

And never will get the attention that Madden gets.

12 months is 12 months and the developers utilise as much of it as possible. They could skip a year and take two years to cover more ground, but there would be people who would be upset by that, too.

it's a no win situation i tell ya. madden is made by tiburon, live is made by ea canada.......meaning that they are two totally different teams of developers who work on these videogames. electronic arts is just the publisher for these developers, no more no less......

we also have to keep in mind boys that the live series officially started in 1995, before that it was showdown and a bunch of "vs." games. i believe madden started in '89 on the pc and they've been revamping and upgrading ever since then.......

bottom line is that live isn't going to catch madden anytime soon...and to answer the initial posters question: in all likelihood live will never receive the same amount of attention because madden is the most popular, best selling sports game today. not to mention that the nfl is more popular (in america) than the nba is.....

regardless boys, we'll just have to suck it up because we know that we're all going to buy this game anyway no matter how it compares to madden or any other videogame. :)

I wonder how much money the Live team puts into creating it's games compared to the Madden team. It's probably embarassing. It's just a shame for basketball fans, but I do think it has something to do with the fact that this is the hardest sport to emulate. Basketball, more than any other sport (excluding extreme sports) allows for the most creativity. There are only so many ways to throw a baseball, or catch a football. There are countless ways to throw down a slam, or work a dribble move, etc...

Still though, after looking at the attention and improvements Madden continues to get, it sometimes makes us Live fans feel like EA just doesn't give a damn. Yet we still love 'em ;).

Agreed, there are a lot of elements in basketball to consider: the shotclock and other time-based violations, scores being a certain amount to be realistic, not to mention it's a rather unique sport with individualism and creativity that you don't usually find in team sports. While I think there's still plenty of potential for the NBA Live series to become even better and even deeper, there are some things that probably won't ever be truly captured in a video game.

Just to touch on this, Madden is coming out in 2 days ! :)

This is a cool video of Madden 06 called helmet off and it shows how great the game is, from the video you can tell they have the new superstar mode where you can basically manipulate your player physique in any manner you want sort of what we had in Nba Live 2000 which create a face (i think that was the name of the feature) check it out >>> http://www.nflplayers.com/events/events ... times.aspx

In Madden 05 they came out with the Hit Stick, and now in 06 they counterattack it with the Truck stick only intended for the offensive players. It is a way to counter the hit stick per se. Madden is so detailled that it tells us in their official site that not everybody can use the truck stick... e.g. the big running backs are the ones that will benefit the most from the truck stick - the ones weighting 220 pounds or more and guys with a high BTK (Break Tackle) rating. See how detailled the Madden Team is?

I say this because in Nba Live 05, Shaq CAN NOT back down a smaller player  that is insane. However when he positioned himself closer to the basket we just hit the dunk/lay up button and he slams it hard. The back down button barely works.

And their newest Superstar mode, you will be able to unlock up to 60 different personas... that is so cool... please EA include a similar mode for next year !!!

NBA Live will be better when ALL of the next - gen consoles come out this year and next year. All of the technology will be better and NBA Live can do their wonders to the game much easier. (My opinion.)

I respect ya opinion but Madden has always been up there when coming to EA SPORTS Games. NBA LIVE will be close but MADDEN will be up there ahead of NBA LIVE still. Madden has always improved alot every year when it comes to graphics, game play and etc.
