dunk button/foul/ugly shot

Postby nickjgar on Sun May 15, 2005 8:30 am

I"ve been playing this game since it was Lakers vs Celtics. I may be alone here, but ever since they added the dunk button, the game has been less enjoyable and more frustrating for me. I have a difficult time explaining this but once you push the dunk button they either dunk/lay it in, get pushed and throw up a stupid shot, get pushed and blocked or fouled. Its almost like it becomes too repititious or something. I especially hate when they shoot it behind the backboard. If you shoot a regular shot under the hoop, they kind of shoot it funny and its not likely to go in. I with they would add different variety of shots around the rim( a quick banker, little hook etc something different). Also, I hate shooting with the big guys. The shot looks rediculous. And why do the players who aren't the greatest shooters shoot it over the backboard. I mean, its ridiculous. Who came up with that. (Guys like Kenny Anderson do it ).And when you pass it to them they have to jump and catch it. It takes forever. It slows everything down. The game looks better and better every year, but I'm not so sure about the gameplay, and that's what is most important ot me. Some of these things that are problems now were never an issue years ago. I won't even get in to the fast breaks. Ayway, thats enough of my rambling.

yeah i hate when you post someone up and they jump toward you to catch your pass and by then they are no where near where you want them to be to post up. I hate the behind the backboard shots too. But i use the dunk/layup button alot. I dont think i ever use the shoot button unless im going for a 3. and occasionally a mid range jumper. But yeah, some of the shots are just weird looking.
This sig was too offensive for the kids.

I have to disagree in part. Forcing a dunk or layup is much better than the old days of hitting the shoot button and watching your player attempt a lean-in jumper when they could at least perform a layup. But I agree with the rest of your points, those are issues that need to be resolved.

I hate the fact I have a 7 footer running down the lane and it seems like (Baseline High Camera default zoom) he should be able to dunk the shit out of the ball he takes 2 steps and does high arching flop type shot that never goes in. This cannot even be mistaken for a layup.

Also, the jumping to catch the ball pisses me off.

Even with all this 7 months later still palying so that is a good sign about most of the game.

I hate the fact that the vast majority of the shots are just swish. When's the last time you saw a bank hook shot? When's the last time you did a fadeaway under the basket and they banked it off the glass? Hardly ever! When your right at the basket they should be trying to bank these shots in, layups too. Also I don't know if you understand this right but sometimes when people make shots the ball doesn't go clean through the hoop, it bounces off the back of the rim and goes down through the hoop fast, and the net doesn't really kick up a lot, I'd like to see those kinds of shots made.

Banking a shot is something that they should try sometimes, but not all the time.

Big guys shooting normal shots? Have you seen big guys shooting the jumpers? It looks weird in reality too...

Jumping to catch the ball... This sometimes happens in real life as well and the play usually loses momentum at that point. But all the passes inside shouldn't be high arched or arched at all... A quick bounce pass will usually get the job done as well... The jump animation is maybe a bit too slow, but throwing up a bad pass when the center has to jump for it always kills the momentum...

Sure some of the shots are weird looking, but it's only a game... It will never be perfect...

There is a lot of valid complaints there, but most of it is just a little tweaking that needs to be done. More post moves is a must and shooting through the backboard should be eliminated all together...

There should be bank shots (bank shoot is when you shoot into board and then ball goes in ? )

In reality, i even three-pointers form corners (not from corners, but between corner and front) shoot from the board... :o

I wish you understood what i have said...

So, what does this have to do with the dunk button? Even if it was one button, people would still go behind the basket. The Dunk button is one of the few things that really keep me from getting too interested in the 2K series. They need to just sit down and figure out what players would really do other than shooting behind basket.

Yeah I hate how some big men shoot a really lame jumper in the post that's easy to block. The only shot that seems to work well other than dunking is that lil one hand jumper off the spin. The two hand jumper and hook get stopped too easily.

Well, apart from swishes, occasionally they have bank shots but very rarely, even on rarer occasions, the ball will bounce high of the rim, and when you think it's gonna miss and u try to get the rebound, it goes in.

I've noticed myself either forcing a dunk/lay-up or going for a three ,which gets repetitive very fast but as of now I don't see mid-range jumpers being effective at all. I mean why attempt to shoot if you can just do a freestyle move and dunk? :|
