v1.07 released...

Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

I for one always appreciate the great work your doing on these rosters. Im a long time visiter, ever since live 99, just rarely post. People should be greatful that somebody was willing to takeover reigns when Tim and Lutz called it a day.

Your always going to get the anoying little bastards that dont know the meaning of respect, but try to ignore them. For every one of those brats there are probably...well...10 of us that really appreciate what your doing.

Keep up the great work (Y)

By the way, havent checked the rosters yet myself but i sence an Inside Stopper ability coming for darko soon
``They play the game the way it's supposed to be played,'' Iverson said. ``It's not about athletics. That's the game the way Karl Malone and John Stockton play it. It's good for kids to see how the game is supposed to be played.''

Thanks spreeul8r, appreciate your support too. (Y)

I don't know about Darko getting Inside Stopper just yet, his blocking rating already qualifies but I'll have to wait on the other ratings, especially Defensive Awareness. But as he continues to get court time in Orlando and shows what he can do, so too can his ratings come up to reflect his performance. :)

Thats good enough for me :D

BTW im an aussie from sydney with a croation background...and im definately a Bogut fan first, but for some reason im also a massive darko fan. Dont know why, i guess im always cheering for the underdog, and im over all that political bullshit.

I think andrew did an excellent job especially with detroit. Rasheed was rated too high and so was prince. Hamilton defenetly needed a boost and he got it. Well done. People that critized are doing it because thats "their" team and dont want to loose ratings.

I myself am a knicks fan and i think Marbury and Francis should defenetly get a look at. There are defenetly not that good 88 & 89 OVR.

I would also like to suggest looking into Steve Nash as he for some reason isnt even in the top 5 in point guards. Marbury, Francis, Baron, Kidd, Billups, Arenas are all higher than him and Nash might win the MVP all over again.

Last but not leaset i would recommend a look at Dirk since he is also having an MVP season and i think he is one of the top big mans in the league. I think he should be around 88 overall like Jermain Oneil or Kirilenko.

I know you dont boost ratings to boost them andrew, im just suggesting to check those players out and maybe see where we are missing some increases in a few departments.

Those would be my suggestions for the next patch. Oh and by the way, Andrew dont let the few imature posters get to you. There are always going to be idiots running around on the internet, just ignore them. You do a heck of a job (Y)

You know, I wouldn't like to see that 'cause I got my doubts that Marbury and Francis forgot how to play ball...

I'm rather convinced there are some mystical things goin' on with the Knicks this season... or blame it on team-chemistry issues or what but I don't think it warrants lowering their ratings...

Moreover I want to hook up with people saying that the OVR-rating is just a result of a calculation from the rating-engine... don't take it that serious...

Hey Andrew what should I do if I can't update Smush's Parker's appearance. I download the needed files put them in the sgsm folder, but it doesn't work, what's the problem?

Hey everybody, I just registered for this forum and I think what some people do with NBALIVE is unreal. I like the roster updates and I read all the messages in this thread (two pages), it looks like Andrew puts in a lot of time. I'd just like to ask a couple of questions and post some comments. I'm not sure if I'm in the right area for any of these questions, but I'm sure all find out when people respond.

Questions:
Jersey patches: I've downloaded a whole bunch of jersey patches, and when I run Mikki's roster update I am able to see these jerseys but when I run Andrew's I am not able to use the jerseys. I think I read somewhere else that it is because Mikki's roster update comes with the jersey's unlocked, so I'm going to assume this to be true. I was just curious, how do I go about unlocking jersey's in the game? Is it simply entering in codes via MyNBALive from the main menu, or do I have to do this some other way?

Dynasty mode: Ok I would like to use the new jerseys I download in Dynasty mode. I understand that I cannot use the new rosters, and I am expecting a "you can only use the jerseys by starting a new dynasty", but I am thinking there has to be a way to overwrite the jersey files in a dynasty save folder. Does anybody know if this is possible / want to tell me how to do this?

Transition screen: I downloaded this TNT game patch and it is awesome. Now not to say that I don't like the transition patches that people have posted, but is there a way to completely remove the patch so that I can see the inbounder run out of bounds (sometimes the transition screen seems to lag and you get to see the "behind the scenes" actions that these players do - they seem to be sped up - anybody know what I mean?). I think it would be really cool to not have any transition screen at all, is there a way I can remove it from the game?

Comments :
-Relating to this thread, I would have to agree with the new roster update and the decrease in players such as Joe Johnson. I honestly believe he isn't that good, and that his 'great' season last year was solely based on the fact that he played directly beside Mr. Nash. That is my personal opinion though. (BTW Nash is rated perfectly, he doesn't need to be a 90+ overall, he is very effective when you play with him)

-I'm a huge Raptors fan from Toronto (maybe that's why I just gave Steve N. too much credit above? :D -nah) and maybe what I am about to say might be completely biased, but I'm going to give it a shot.
- - I think Charlie V. - aka "The Big Smooth" (something to think about, adding this nickname) should have a higher 3-point percentage, and possibly field goal and inside scoring tweaked higher. I read earlier posts saying I should have statistical proof, but I'm not sure what I say about him will be sufficient enough to prove that he deserves higher stats. Quickly though, he hit 6 three's in his 48 point game last week, and in February he jacked 19 three's in 11 games. I'm not saying he's deserving of a Shooter FS type, but maybe a 60 rating?
- - On the note of Shooter Freestyle Superstar, how about Mike James? I think people will definitely disagree with me on this, but James hits so many three's and he's pretty accurate, NBA.com has him at 7th overall in terms of 3P% (42.8%), and he's at 4.6 attempts per game. I don't know of any other proof I can find of him being awesome at three's, unless all you guys can check out the next Raptor game on tv or in town! I think for sure if he's not made a FS Shooter, that a bump in his ratings would be fair. Right now he's rated a 79 in three's. [ I do realize I can change this stat myself, but I mean it's not really fair to Mike, he's having such a great season in terms of 3's...If he downloaded this patch, I wouldn't want him to be upset. ]

Quick Recap:
-Displaying Jerseys
-Dynstasy Jerseys
-No Transition Screen
-Big Smooth and Mike James.

Sorry for the really long post, but thanks for reading through it all the way. I'm looking forward to your responses.

I just looked at his stats, and in my opinion I don't think he's having a better year, the stats are very similar. That being said though, it makes you right about Nash's contribution to JJ's stats, so I guess Stevie didn't really make that much of a difference on JJ. I still don't think that Johnson is a FS superstar though!

I see where you're coming from, but I'm not too sure about that. As horry5 said, it's unlikely they've forgotten how to play basketball or their skills have truly diminished, rather that the Knicks are in total disarray as far as their chemistry is concerned.

I would also like to suggest looking into Steve Nash as he for some reason isnt even in the top 5 in point guards. Marbury, Francis, Baron, Kidd, Billups, Arenas are all higher than him and Nash might win the MVP all over again.

Again, I do see where you're coming from but the problem with that is I'd need to raise his defensive ratings since that's what's pulling his overall rating down, and honestly, that wouldn't be all that realistic since Nash is a mediocre defensively as he is brilliant offensively. Even with the lower overall rating, he should still perform brilliantly in the areas he excels at.

Last but not leaset i would recommend a look at Dirk since he is also having an MVP season and i think he is one of the top big mans in the league. I think he should be around 88 overall like Jermain Oneil or Kirilenko.

Again, the problem is that his individual ratings already allow him to get the kind of simulated stats he's supposed to and play as much like his real life counterpart as the game currently allows.

Hey Andrew what should I do if I can't update Smush's Parker's appearance. I download the needed files put them in the sgsm folder, but it doesn't work, what's the problem?

Check out Cable Guy's thread over in Patching Issues on cyberface installations with DBF editing.

I was just curious, how do I go about unlocking jersey's in the game? Is it simply entering in codes via MyNBALive from the main menu, or do I have to do this some other way?

All the jerseys are unlocked in the NLSC roster too, but any additional ones won't show up if there's no entry for them in teamgear.dbf.

Following on from before, teamgear.dbf doesn't actually store any season data and can be mixed and matched between roster updates and Dynasty saves without any problems. If you've modified teamgear.dbf to include additional jerseys (or downloaded one for modified jerseys), just overwrite the one you're using in your Dynasty or the one installed with the roster update. There shouldn't be any problems.

I'll consider those changes, Cable Guy already made a couple of suggestions about Charlie V's three point rating which I agree can come up. Thanks for the input. :)

I think JJ's good year is due to the fact that he plays for the hawks. Anyone can but up decent numbers if given the opportunity. I mean, even crappy teams still put up roughly the same number of shots as good teams, thier players just arent as good. So you tell joe johnson that he pretty much has a green light whenever he wants it, and he is going to score. Another good example would be brevin knight. He has put up monster assist numbers the last two years and lead the league in steals this year. He is an upcoming free agent this year, and you arent hearing much talk about him. Why? because he isnt that good. ratings are about more than just stats. They are about abilities. Now its hard for you and I to judge an nba players abilites because all we get to do is catch a game here and there and check the stats.

As far as rating changes i think should be made:

Dirk - just plain better overall. he is a legit defender now, and is one of the top five players in the nba, no question

yao ming - passing needs to go down!!!! carreer assist average in real live is less than 1.5, so why does he always average 5 or 6 assists a game in my dynasty and win multiple mvp's???

Nash - i like the overall rating for him, and you can use him effectively, but he always scores way too much and passes way to little when used in simulation. he should average more like 18 and 11, not 26 and 7.

KG- as good as KG is, i dont think he is quite a 97

Shaq- I dont think he is an 89 anymore. He dominates too much and puts up to good of numbers in my dynasties. He isnt an mvp caliber guy anymore. Well maybe his switch is just in the off position until playoff time like he says, so maybe we should wait until after the playoffs to take a look.

marbury and francics arent that good. the knicks suck.

Boris diaw - the guy averages 13, 6, and 6. I know i said stats arent everything, but hes good. real good.

Illgouskas blocks way too many shots

stro swift and d-miles are probably a bit high at 77 and 76

every once in a while i use the legends in a season or something like that. can anyone tell me why thier ratings suck so much? i mean are you telling me steve francis and starbary are better than bill russell????

Those are about the only major things I can think of, as far as all of the guys who are having good weeks here and there, lets wait and see if they can sustain it. We can be adjusting for the ebe's and flows of a basketball season with every roster update.

Anyways thats just my two cents, let me know what ya all think!

oops! sorry one more thing!
Andrew i think that what you do is awesome and i love the roster updates. I think they are absolutley fantastic. Things like this make my gaming experience ten times better than it would be without. People like you are the reason it is worth forking over the money for these games. And you do it all for free! Is there a donations section on the web page where people can offer up a little monetary thanks????

oh and one more thing, is there anyway to stop the CPU from re-ordering the rosters after a player comes back from injury? Sometimes I change around a teams lineup before I make a dynasty, and after the first injury the changes are undone! Thanks for all of the help!

Agreed, but I'm not sure he warrants a significant boost at this time.

yao ming - passing needs to go down!!!! carreer assist average in real live is less than 1.5, so why does he always average 5 or 6 assists a game in my dynasty and win multiple mvp's???

Sounds alright, I'll check it out.

Nash - i like the overall rating for him, and you can use him effectively, but he always scores way too much and passes way to little when used in simulation. he should average more like 18 and 11, not 26 and 7.

Difficult situation there, his Primacy is down already. I'll see if there's anything I can do.

KG- as good as KG is, i dont think he is quite a 97

Again, it's boosting/lowering ratings simply for the sake of making the overall look better, which I don't do. Sorry.

Same there.

marbury and francics arent that good. the knicks suck.

As I said before, they haven't forgotten how to play basketball. I would rather not decrease players simply so a team's overall is lowered.

Boris diaw - the guy averages 13, 6, and 6. I know i said stats arent everything, but hes good. real good.

I've already increased his ratings in light of that.

Illgouskas blocks way too many shots

I'll look into that.

stro swift and d-miles are probably a bit high at 77 and 76

They might have a couple of ratings that are too high. I'll check them out too.

Andrew i think that what you do is awesome and i love the roster updates. I think they are absolutley fantastic. Things like this make my gaming experience ten times better than it would be without. Thanks baldus, appreciate it. :) There's no section for donations, I do appreciate the sentiment but strange as it may sound I wouldn't feel right about accepting money for my work.

oh and one more thing, is there anyway to stop the CPU from re-ordering the rosters after a player comes back from injury? Sometimes I change around a teams lineup before I make a dynasty, and after the first injury the changes are undone! Thanks for all of the help!

I must menthion that L. Kleiza is underrated. Here are his stats:
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/linas_kleiza/index.html

He played in 56 games, while in NBA live he is in the IR the entire season. He averages 3.7 points, so I defenetely think you should update him a little.

Well, maybe they don't, but look at A. Bynum stats, think about that Lakers are weaker than Nuggets, look at their rating...still it's up to you to decide.

I don't boost ratings simply so the team's overall looks better. At this point in time, I don't think Bynum needs a big update either.

Transition Screen?

Postby Salami&Cheese on Mon Apr 03, 2006 4:42 am

Anybody know if there is any way to completely remove the transition screen?

Also, not being able to trade draft picks in dynasty mode BLOWS. I just offered last place Knicks a first round pick for a player that is rated 57 overall one day before the trade deadline and they rejected it. Maybe the game is too realistic in terms of terrible Knick management?

Hey Andrew....thanks for the updates, heaps of people appreciate what you do. And Salami and cheese, you can trade draft picks, but usually you have to edit the shit out the team you want to trade with.

If anyone can do it, why don't they? Johnson is getting more possessions yes, but he hasn't lost any efficiency despite using a third more possessions, and he's added 2.5 points per 40 min despite increasing his assist ratio by a third too.

Knight simply got playing time. His assist and steal rates are basically unchanged from his career averages. He's always passed the ball a ton (39.6 career assist rate...41.9 last year, 36.7 this year) and grabbed a bunch of steals (2.8 steals per 40 min career average...2.7 last year, 2.7 this season) he's just playing 30+ minutes for the first time since his first two seasons in the league and thus his per game numbers are up. Knight's not a very good example.

Sorry for taking thread off course. I'll claim I'm um...trying to toughen up the suggestions Andrew gets. Yeah...that's what I'm doing.

You just made my point for me! I said that if given a chance to use lots of possesions, guys put up big numbers. you made my argument again using stats. I dont think knight should be rated high just because he put up alot of assists/steals, i think he should be rated on his abilities, same with JJ. while he has increased a bit statistically over last season, he isnt that much better.

oh, and so i sense a little 82games.com in that post??? well done my friend, well done!

Thanks for the rosters, as always. I'm going to chip in with my $0.02, but just general suggestions.

I'm not sure if you've taken note of Raymond Felton's play. He's been on fire. Incredible fast and quick, in limited and open space. Surprisingly, his jump shot has been very good and he has finished very well around the basket.

With Elton Brand's rating at 80, I couldn't figure out why he couldn't take an outside jumper until I remembered the range factor :P. A majority of his shots are actually jump shots from around 15', but he has range out to 18 feet. I would give Big Z, Gasol, and Randolph a shooting range of out to 18' as well.
