Hi mate,

Can you extract and add Chris Mullin from NBA Live 07 or Live 08 ?? It would be a great addition to Live 06 cause he was left out !!!

Regards and thanks for your great work

Keep it up

Maybe I should expound more. I can use AUDY just fine but my problem is with DBCommander. In the tutorials for this program, I assume the dbf file to work on if doing new players ID's is the players.dbf file. I know how to add a row etc, fill in the players name and add the player and speech ID which I assume is the same.

I'm unsure if all my assumptions are even remotely right. Is this the right dbf file to edit?...Are those the only things I have to enter when I create a new row for the new player?...

I've looked through the tutorials which are great but they are always a step ahead of me and do not specifically say which files to open on DBCommander or how much to edit.

I would love to hear the announcers say the players name! Thanks guys for knowing so much.

Thanks for your kind words. To you and to everyone else. I guess I'm just updating one aspect of the game that I consider vital. Jerseys, Arenas, Roster patches, etc, are handled by many guys around here, and I'm not particularly good at updating those. On the other hand, I don't like to play for a team that doesn't have their names announced, and I can actually provide something for the community when we're talking about audio. I'll be missing some players here and there, but I think the Speech Files help to enjoy the game a little bit more (it's not the same "Kevin Durant" than "Number 35", and so on).

Speech IDs for coaches is totally possible. I'll see what I can do. The Coaches Speech File release isn't out of the question.

I'll be providing a Legends Speech File (probably several) in the near future. Chris Mullin will be featured in them.

If you don't have any problems with Audy, then the tough part has been done. DBCommander is actually pretty easy to use, and the editing you need to do is fairly minimal.

Once you've created a new SpeechID with Audy (again, I assume you have done this correctly), you open the players.dbf file of the rosters you want to update with DBCommander. Let's say your newly created SpeechID is 5432, and it belongs to JaVale McGee.

Then, you look for McGee's entry, without adding anything. You simply replace his SpeechID by typing 5432, and you save. Open the rosters in-game, and try to score with McGee. You should listen his name announced.

You do not have to add any rows or columns, and PlayerID and SpeechID do not necessarily coincide. EA has chosen to match them for their released players, but for the ones added by the community (new Free Agents, new Rookies, etc), it doesn't necessarily work that way. Simply modify the SpeechID without touching the PlayerID entry.

WOW Nick_Collison you have been a great help. You don't know how thankful I am. Now I know that when you create the new ID with Audy it is already transfered to players.dbf I didn't know that. Ahhh I'm so happy now. I'm going to try a few things and get back if I have any questions. Once again this site rocks because of the people...Thanks.

1) First, make a backup of xarplhdr.idx, which is located under
Program Files/EA SPORTS/NBA LIVE 06/audio/speech/arena.
2) Launch Audy06 and open your original xarplhdr.idx.
3) Click "New" in order to create a speech file.
4) Click "Add" in each of the speech files belonging to a particular player (e.g.,
keduran0.wav). Make PBP type same as number at the end of the .wav file (in this
example, type is 0).
5) In SpeechID, choose an available SpeechID (For example, and if you haven't added
any speech files yet, 2062).
6) Save the file, naming it as the SpeechID you just selected (2062, for instance).
7) Click "Import" and open your SpeechID.hdr (e.g., 2062.hdr).

These are the instructions. When you "Add" a new speech file, you are saving a .hdr file and a .dat file (Following the example, 2062.hdr and 2062.dat).

Once you saved that file, import it. Hope this helps.

The Speech Files VI is available. It's an upgraded version of the 2009 NBA Rookies. I've managed to compile 40 draftees, adding guys like B.J. Mullens, Omri Casspi, Jon Brockman or Ahmad Nivins. Also, players like Jordan Hill now have an improved SpeechID.

Here's the link.

Up next, Training Camp fodder. And maybe some really excited SpeechIDs for Okafor, Dwight Howard, Ben Gordon, Bogut, Chris Paul and the whole 2004 and 2005 NBA Drafts.

The Speech Files VII has been released. It features 33 players from the 2009 Training Camp rosters. Andrew created four of them in the latest NBA Live PC patch (Trey Gilder, Wesley Matthews, Marcus Landry and Tony Gaffney - all included), but some of the others may be given a 10-day contract or two in the near future.

Here's the link:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?tnqy4mj3j03

Also, I've uploaded a list with all the players included in the Speech Files project. It's useful for those that are searching for a particular player, as it indicates in which pack he's been added:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?trtnonm0jhm

Up next, I'll be adding the "very excited" speech for some of the current players, and correcting some mispronunciations. Also, some coaches will be done. And the international stars from Live 08 will be featured as well.

After that, I guess I'll shift my attention to players from the past.

Minor drawback.

I've discovered a small issue regarding my Speech Files. Those .wav files directly obtained from the ASF Extractor, are converted to a certain quality (32000 Hz). Audy converts to a 24000 Hz quality, and works best that way. I have noticed that before, but didn't think it would matter greatly. The thing is, the difference is actually noticeable even through Audy: 24000 Hz files sound better.

Which forces me to re-do part of my project and re-upload it. But also gives me the opportunity to create my own batch of SpeechIDs (my own xarndat.pcd) and then upload the whole pack for Andrew to include it in the next NBA Live PC release.

Andrew, if you still want to create your own xarndat.pcd, be my guest. I will indicate every modification introduced to each pack through the readme files.

I haven't finished yet so if you're basing your IDs off the ones in the roster or provide me with a batch file as you said, then it would probably be easier for me to include your updated speech file. (Y)

I will follow the NBA Live 07 and 08 SpeechIDs, so you shouldn't have any problems.

On other (disappointing) news, I can't seem to get the "replace" feature to work in Audy. Tell me if you can, but that means Oklahoma City speech files are out of the question. The ASF Exporter requires coincidence in length for your .ASF files, which is almost impossible to accomplish.

This also means, I cannot replace mispronounced player. For example, DeSagana Diop. Unless I create a new SpeechID. Your call.

Of course, I was planning on creating really excited speech files for Howard, Okafor and company. They will require new SpeechIDs too for that to happen. You cannot add new slots within an existing SpeechID.

I'm willing to create new SpeechIDs for all those players. Maybe you have a different opinion, but I think it adds too much to the game to be ignored.

We have a tremendous number of free slots (SpeechID limit is 10000), but the rosters need to be adjusted accordingly. I can do that if you want, it's just modifying a number. Or I can provide you a list with the changes that need to be done. Your call.

Excellent, that'll save me a lot of time and help out tremendously. Thanks. :)

That's a shame about the Oklahoma City audio but thanks for looking into that. As far as the new SPEECHIDs for players who already have speech, if you wanted to give it a shot that would be fine but I'd need to have a batch file on hand because on the really big updates - ie the post Draft updates - I need to redo the conversions from the 08 rosters all over again.

Of course, I realize now that new SpeechIDs for existing players will mean no Marv and Steve speech. It doesn't bother me at all, as I simply play without commentary ("number 1, passes it to number 2, gets it to number 3, he shoots, number 3 scores" is as boring as it gets), but many people play with them, so I don't know what to do.

Why don't you just replace commentary for players who are no longer in the league and don't need any commentary?

As I said, I can't get the "replace" feature to work with the Arena SpeechIDs. It doesn't do anything.

Besides, it would generate one problem: Imagine I replace, say, Austin Croshere, with Okafor's new SpeechID. When you create any Croshere player (or there's a rookie called Croshere), Marv and Steve will say Okafor, as you cannot modify the intern links between a given last name, and its audio. You cannot add a line that links that SpeechID to Okafor, because it's configured to belong to Croshere.

Back when Audy 06 came out, I was able to do it, though. You can't add new Marv/Steve commentary, but you can replace it. The only thing you would have to change is the speechid in the roster, so you would have to provide either a batch file to change the roster, or have Andrew do it before a release.
