We've covered that in the NBA Live PC FAQ.

it's because there are a lot of patches being released for 08 already.. updated rosters, thousands of art files.. what else would you want?.. as for 06, there are rare patchers who are updating it before this project begun.. now, if you're still confused, then, i would wonder how you're even able to use your computer..

It's also more about the reception to NBA Live 08 PC and the issues that it has compared to other games in the series. After careful consideration and community feedback, we settled on NBA Live 06 as the game to update for the NBA Live PC project.

That's because you don't know that Live 06 is a much better game. Just because 08 is in the title doesn't mean it's better. Live 06 has a much more balanced gameplay and is easier to tweak. If you tweak the gameplay of Live 08 everytime you fix a black hole you create another black hole. With Live 06 you can use 2X and 3X textures without have to worry about your game crashing and Live 06 also doesn't have that stupid Live 08 bug where you can't rebound after a freethrow.

Indeed, a few of the reasons 06 was chosen for the project.

hey andrew, quick question - do any of the other roster threads being posted in this section (benji'sroster, rosters with rookies, bleacherfan's roster etc) have anything to do with the PC Project roster you're working on?

i'm tempted to try them out but if i know you've got one that's WIP, then i'd rather wait - thx in advance

No, I don't have a hand in any of the other rosters that have been posted. I would certainly encourage you to try them out, the advantage of this project is that it can potentially provide you with different alternatives to choose from.

Not at this time. Beta releases probably won't include any art but I'll see when I get there.

yea, I know that, but from what I have experienced, it would be a lot better with 08 because of the dynasty features and the sig shots, even though live 06 was a better game, but 08 is still a helluva lot better game than 07

But NBA Live 08 isn't nearly as well received and the sim engine issues turn a lot of people away. Bottom line, NBA Live 06 is the game we've chosen for this particular community project but I'm sure people will continue updating NBA Live 08. I'm still doing the rosters for 08 and 07 in addition to 06.

The good thing is that you can choose which game to play because like Andrew is saying people will also continue updating Live 08. Right now i have both games installed but when most of this project is finished i simply uninstall Live 08 because like i said i think Live 06 is better and also more fun. I will still be using patches for Live 08 because the great thing is that a lot is compatible with Live 06. For example i'm using Asem's Lightning Update with Live 06 and it's fantastic.

lol sorry i am new in this

Postby obliviousky on Fri Aug 01, 2008 11:13 am

I have been playing NBA live 2006 since it came out and until now. Besides the cool sig shot NBA live 2008 has, everything else NBA live 2006 is better. You can say that 08 has alot of players updated, but I have downloaded alot of players' updates including tattooes from NBA live 2008 section and they all work in 06. Also courts in NBA live 2008 give NBA live 2006 a clean new look in my 06. As long as we update some new jerseys and make the game much smoothier, 06 is the way to go.

oh yea alot of NBA live 2008 custom player accessories work in 06.

go 06 it's the best

Only that I'm currently converting the latest 07 update (itself a conversion of the 08 update). There's a little more you have to do converting 07 or 08 to 06 compared to 08 to 07 so it's taking a bit longer but I'll probably post an update without art here in the NBA Live PC section when it's done and then we can set about compiling all the necessary art.

Once that's done we can create a complete update package but since there were some issues with FSS in the last beta, I'd like to make sure this conversion is working properly before I release it as a "proper" update, art and all.

quick questions: The roster (including players and ratings) will be the same to what you released for nba live 07 and 08 right?

That's correct. It's a conversion from the 07 update which itself was converted from 08. The 06 release will have more up to date rosters though, with 08 and 07 set to have new releases themselves very soon with the latest transactions.

A beta will be coming soon. Note that the beta will not include any art, I'd like everyone to try the beta first and upon its release I'll start compiling the art updates ready for a proper stable release with updated rosters and art.

Andrew, i know you dislike people asking about this but do you think we will have an update by this week? Don´t want to bug but some NBA teams already have 5+ games played and i think something should be released soon because the 2k9 stuff is gaining territory fast. Based on that, people are starting to lose interest and that is extremely bad because the project is supposed to improve with members´ input.
Note: I am sure you are aware of the issue and that you are trying to release this as soon as possible.

I'd like to, but unfortunately I don't have the art. As you can see, no one's replied to the compilation stickied thread. I can release another beta without art but that leads to another string of "Where is the art?"/"You forgot to include the art"/"Some players have pink faces" emails from people who don't read the release notes and see that it's a beta. Plus, I think with a couple of betas already and all the beta issues fixed, it's about time for a proper release. But I can't do that without the art. :(

People can use all the player art from Live 08. I for example extracted all the portraits and cyberfaces from Live 08's original plyrface.viv and plyrprts.viv and use those files in combination with the player art from Albys Roster. I imported all the files to Live 06's plyrprts.viv and plyrface.viv
I prefer this because i don't like all those files to be in the sgsm folder.

Problem with using the original files from Live 08 is that i don't know if it's legal to upload those files.
