about players' improvement

Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

i agree with you 100%. i am all about dynasty mode therefor thats all i care about when i read previews. i am probably in the minority here but for me its dynasty then gameplay with graphics trailing a very distant 3rd.

andrew you bring up a good point, i could play 12 min quarters on rookie and make it so my rookie who is only 52 overall scores 30 a game and watch as his stats fly up next season, while all the computer rookies are only getting 3-4 min a game(assuming also 52 overall) and no points. so i can see your point but the way madden does it is really good, i think playing time is the most important thing in that game, but they got it right. i am sure with effort live could also get it right

While that is true, they could make it so doing so would greatly hurt your other players development. Perhaps anyone on your team with less then 3 years experience would have their ratings go down if they did not get a fair chance at improving through rounded team scoring... something along those lines.

I don't think there should be much (if any decline) during the early years, with the exception of physical attributes if a player sustains a serious injury. That might be easier to implement actually, frequent injuries resulting in a player's hardiness and other physical ratings being affected.

That goes for any player. There are some things a player just shouldn't get worse in. Smart players don't forget how to play basketball, so their awareness ratings shouldn't decline. Shooters generally remain shooters their entire career, perhaps with a bit of slippage here and there but their jumpers remain a threat until they hang it up. Most of the decline should remain with the physical attributes (as well as dunking).

imo the awareness stats should only go up. they should never ever ever go down. just like you said, you dont forget how to play.

yeah the total randomness is lame like that. nothing like winning rookie of the year only to be worse next season.

Well, Damon Stoudamire does come to mind. ;) But in general it doesn't happen, statistical decline such as a lower scoring average should mostly be the result of other players joining the team and taking away shot attempts.

Just wanted to mention... NBA 2K5 has a pretty good team chemistry system (that you can turn off if it irritates you).

Players have one of three basic personalities and occasionally talk to you after games and you've got to reassure them, etc. Leaving them on the trade block does affect them, I think.

Yeah it does, I have players coming upto me saying they're hearing trade rumours etc, I tell them to shut up. The trade block thing is slightly dodgy, guys like LeBron and T-Mac often get added to it but still, nice feature.

I like the idea of having better improvement too, I hate the previous implementations. But how could you constantly get 20/10 games if you only play say 6 minute quarters?

thats is the thing the devs would have to work on, how to make development different for those who play 12 min vs those who plays 6. maybe they would even need to make it where there was only 3 or 4 different time settings to choose from to make this option realisticy possible, but imo its worth it to have a game where players develop based on something. at the very least make playing time count.
