NBA Live 06: Freestyle Superstars from IGN

Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

This is gonna be good.

I started thinking about this two, but judging by the first vid released, it looks like 2 different versions of gameplay. In the first one with the Sonics and Pistons it looked like a nice, half-court game, but this one lookes riddled with fast breaks, etc.

But be thankful that we actually have Sliders this time too. :P

@ galvatron3000
In the first report it said ASW was gonna be in this game.

i dont know how i feel about this to be honest. it sounds complicated at first but i am sure it will be easy to master. if it makes the game too damn easy i will hate it. i hated back when having to limit myself from doing the jump stop at all. all i remember is everytime i did it i scored so i made sure i never used it.

NBAFAN2005 said that this could make the game harder and i see his point. if you are playing a team like the suns with players who can do these special moves and you are a team with no real superstar then the computer will be doing this stuff that you cant do. i like this, i like this alot. i usually always trade most of my team for a bunch of rookies and still end up winning most of the time. then after a year or 2 i basicly never lose cause they all developed. i still have no star player(90 or above) but i just dont lose, so this is good to prevent that. that reminds me i need to complain more about how players develop in nba live, but thats for another topic.

Good lord, he got served!

The 2k NBA Games had the ability to Dunk on people, but that right there what Big Ben did was the sickest thing ever, nuts in the grill.

EDIT: At the end I saw the Trademark Screen it said:

"The NBA Team rosters in this product are accurate as of September 30, 2005."

EDIT 2: Sauru, with the Freestyle thing, the CPU barely uses it but with this new thing its gonna be rare aswell.

Look at these videos and compare them to the e3 video. What happened to all the perfect animations and light bloom?

yeah what happened? It might be the console differences. If the difference is that big between 360 and xbox then we better get the 360 converted version or actually buy 360....

Well...we've been introduced to this year's "Brand New Gimmick That No One Asked For."

I've always wanted to be able to do fancy passes in the game. But this just reeks of "overpowered new feature" to me.

After watching the video.... I'm hoping all those fancy passes aren't common... I mean.. those behind the back fakes and then a layup... Kobe would know better than to do those IN TRAFFIC, and I doubt Nash would spin the ball behind the back and then pass in traffic in a regular game. I hope this doesn't turn into NBA street. If it does though.. I'd probably just edit their ratings so that no-one can do these, or if i can't ingame, I'll edit the dbf to make sure they can't.
Although, the Iverson and Wade moves sure make it more realistic.

Perfectly said man. Thats totally correct. I like the dunking on head I like the passes the dunks that what makes the game real not sweat or moving jerseys that just make it look real and how cares if it look real everyone will still know its a god damn game. Madden look real with real shit now do that make the game intersted. No. It doesnt do anything but looks and personally I dont care about looks I care about passing on the run making bounce passes and etc. If I can dunk with shaq while someone is on me in the post and hang on it like in real life I will take that over Dynasty mode man. Thats real shit thats what he do not sweat that get played out what will you just enjoy the sweat waiting for 07 to come out or will you play real ball when waiting for Live 07 to come out. Real gameplay take u through these months we are going through now waiting for the next 1 to come out not sweat or moving jerseys that shit can get boring after 2 months man.

absolutely.

I hope the new features can keep the gameplay well balanced.
You might have a team focus on team-works like Pistons and Bulls or have a team with a superstar, which are in completely different styles but both can play realistically well (or bad)

I think it's a great idea to continue to expand full player control, because the more players can do to emulate their real life counterparts the more realistic the game can be. However, I have to admit I'm a little concerned that it might be too powerful, like the Freestyle control in NBA Live 2003. It will also prove to be an irritating feature if it makes some players completely unstoppable, but I'd like to learn more and of course, play the game myself before I make any final judgements.

I agree with you Jae. From the sound of it, it does sound very arcade’ish too me. Even in the video it was some stuff that I'd rather not have (Pass around the head across the court, bounce pass of the floor to one self for the alley oop), but there was also stuff that I'd really like to have (posterization, players celebrating); so I don't know, maybe the good stuff weighs out the bad stuff.

My immediate impression was it seemed to be a step closer to NBA Street.

However, the addition of these moves is ok with me as long as they are difficult to pull off and only certain players can do them. Obviously the degree of difficulty in real life when trying to pull off a self-oop off the floor is much harder than a two handed throwdown, so why not make the controls a reflection of this? This will decrease the frequency in which the said moves occur. I don't want opposition pulling these moves off on every break!

Or perhaps they should only make these moves available to players when their indicator starts to pulsate? Just an idea...

not every "new addition" is going to make the great
if you want proof just look at nba live 2003 with the freestyle control and all the wack dunks.. yeah pretty sure that was the worst game in the nba live franchise

im really not digging this freestyle passing/dunking crap.. the crossovers, offball movement were good additions because you would actually see it regularly in a 48 minute game.. but self-served alleyoops? behind the head? back? happening quite often in 48 minutes? get real. not saying they should get rid of it, but at least make it restricted to all-star mode or something like that.

The thing is they don't happen that often, but they happen. From that vid we can't tell how many times per game it's used. That vid was used just to show it off basically. When we start getting the full games like we did for 05, we can see what's really happening. We've seen Steve Francis throw alley oops to himself, hell, even Tony Allen bounced a pass to himself and did a windmill alley-oop in the game. JKidd throws behind the back passes, Nash throws crazy passes like that too. I just think that this should also be risky, like trying to throw a between the legs pass in traffic would result in a turnover.

1 of 3 things is going to happen, the CPU is going to overuse it to the max and this board will be filled with complaints, the CPU won't use it at all and this board will still probably be filled with complaints, like how the CPU never used freestyle in 04 and 03, or it will be used moderately/realistically, which has a pretty small chance of happening.

Hopefully, Shaq's jump rating (or something) will be low enough that he can't really pull off windmills. I like this more for passing. I always felt that I should be able to do more with my ball handler. The coolest pass I could do was the pro-hop:dish-off. And even that usually ended up as a kickout pass. Hopefully, I can take Nash or Magic, and let them make a pretty pass to an open teammate.
