one thing i completly forgot to mention.

Contract Extensions.

man are these needed

Fri Oct 08, 2004 12:18 pm

Create-A Team! I'll have more later but this one is really killing me!

Fri Oct 08, 2004 3:20 pm

completely revamped player models - using a system like madden maybe

adding creation zone

putting in hot/weak streaks --> this would add a lot of realism through the game, affected are player rating and also the shape of the player

draftees getting a better constitution/body --> more pounds/muscles or the worst a player getting problems like shawn kemp (only weight)

Re-Editerating....

Fri Oct 08, 2004 3:32 pm

Being from Australia, I have been totally robbed, cry for me! the game doesn't come out down here for another 3 weeks, totally sux! C'mon EA, we have a fan base too, bloody who wants to play Nascar in Australia, we have the V8's! Not that I'm a car fan by any means, but anyway...

I'm going to put in my suggestions and re-editerate on a couple that have already been mentioned.

Make it more like Madden is a great call as stupid as some may think, madden's menu sections set the tone for all sports games out there.

Pre-Season! I don't beleive any-one has mentioned it, but I think it's a total must! That goes with Summer League, I mean, hey, why not!? It could work, even if they only do play in the generic 'gym', Actual Training Camp (ala Madden again), just make it like the skills competition at all-star weekend if you can't do anything else...

Pre, Post, Half-Time Talk Show! I understand that this isn't easy and probably won't make the game for a few years (imagine in like 10 years, we might get a SportsCenter after every game!)

8-9-10 player rotation! What I mean by this is, like teams like Sacramento that only have an 8-player rotation, their starters & Jackson, Ostertag & Songaila & maybe Kevin Martin this year. Have a setting where you can determine that a team is generally an 8,9 or 10 player rotation team, this would make for better substitution patterns instead of seeing players like DeSagana Diop every time you play the Cavs. I hope everyone gets me on that...

Time-Out's! Make the time-out a bit more realistic, have the players that have been playing sit down, have a non-menu sub-option that comes up, have the coach talk about topics that you select from another non-pause menu pop-up and have the players something too.... even if this option sucked in it's 1st year on the game in would be kinda nifty!

Out-Burst's & Tech Fouls! I understand that you can't have players swaring, swinging fists or anything like that, but just upset jestures and even a temper meter that would lead to Tech Fouls would be an exellent addition to the game and in the play-offs, have this meter much more teadious to going up.

Alley-Oop! The conversion rate just has to be better!

Pick-Up Games! Why not? just set it up like 1 on 1, pick 5 guys for each team, have some soft music in the back-ground and some casual clothes and let players like Ron Artest, Hiram Fuller & other hopefuls play a game, would be a fabulous addition, ESPN 2K series have it, why not EA?

Those are my primary suggestions to an improved future in the NBA Live Series, thank-you for your time, EA, I know what I'm on about and so do these kids from all over the world that worship these sports, keep up the good work and I'll play Live 2004 :( until 005 hits the Aussie shelves!

1) too many blocks. should tone it down, but increase the ability of the players to adjust shots. Once you tone blocks down though, the CPU has trouble adjusting shots as well. Should have a CPU block shot/adjust shot tendency slider.
2) way too many steals and TO. once you tone down the steal slider, the problem becomes human being able to make these crazy passes without turnover. One should be able to adjust CPU defense mentality (eg. guard shots or position vs. going for steal tendancy slider).
3) gives the option for CPU to automatically tweak sliders based on human's gameplay with the ultimate objective being getting right scores and stats.
4) real people can't start and stop, or change directions on a dime. consider the momentum of a moving player in the future.
5) cpu still shoots way too many 3pts., especially when they are down.
6) half time highlights
7) option for game performance affecting player ratings in dynasty mode. eg. player development based on performance during game, eg. player rating decrease after a bad game.
8) player development should not be based on dynasty points (since i'd be forced to have high scoring games to get more dynasty points to develop players, scout players, etc.). all team resources for player development should be relatively the same. i can see the reason for doing that for perks like shooting coach, etc., but not for scouting/player development.

the most important thing to consider

Fri Oct 08, 2004 9:27 pm

as you have noticed, a lot of you request "game extras" for the NBA Live series. However, the most important aspect of the game (which is the gameplay) continues to be problematic. This is in most game sites, the NBA 2k series has always been better (primarily because of it's realistic gameplay i.e. a 12 min quarter game would end up having scores of 80-100). In short, I want to have an NBA game which simulates the real thing. This goes out for all the aspects of the basketball game for it to have a "real" simulation mode. This is not to say that we should forget the aesthetics of the game or even the misc. concerns. EA Sports should continue to improve every aspect. Nothing should be left out. Personally, I really want NBA Live to have a "real" simulation because there is no PC version of the 2K series. If I only had a console, I would have bought 2K. This is a shout out for EA. I hope they will consider this challenge. :?

Sat Oct 09, 2004 1:01 am

would also be nice to see player improvement be based alot more on court time, and training sessions.

Sat Oct 09, 2004 2:34 am

Yes, the ability to give contract extensions is a must...

Sat Oct 09, 2004 4:16 am

i wish that you could create your own plays here just like madden.

Sat Oct 09, 2004 10:00 am

* A slider for alley-oop percentages.
* Uniform Editor like in Madden.
* Custom Camera View Like in Madden.
* Rank the teams (1st, 2nd, 3rd, not just a rating).
* When a player dives on the ground to get the ball, when he passes the ball from the ground it is far too difficult to intercept.
* Perhaps there could be a slider, "CPU Trade Agressiveness.
* Have an animation where the defender gets "dunked on." This way we could have nasty dunks that make you go "oooooh."

Sat Oct 09, 2004 11:35 am

can i just request to have EA trade teams? as in have the madden team make live and the live team make madden? also switch thier budgets too as i am sure madden gets more to play with.

Fri Oct 22, 2004 1:26 pm

Do Not Alter the Gameplay just tweak minor issues( repeat )
Fix the Freestyle Air animation( no going out of bounds when you are clearly in bounds but landing or shooting behind the backboard)

Distinguish between two legged leapers(power dunks) and one legged gliders(finesse dunks, gliders)

Posterized(snap shot of dunk on another player) for end of season

Create a team Logo and Create a tattoo(Custom Team and Creat a Player)

A focused team stragedy, focusing on your teams strengths and exploits opponents weakness
User Profiles( for storing stats and most importantly plays)

Account for players momentum and stop and go movements, i.e. Madden, for defender as well as offensive players
(more agile players cut faster and recover quicker from jumping and landing to jumping again, also recover faster if faked out)
Image running hard to the right with your defenderin front ,forcing him to move hard to his left to stay in front, you make an immediate stop:
Option 1: Pull up for a J
Option 2: spin, drive for lay -up or dish if defender rotates off teammate
Option 3: Freestyle to left quick then follow Options 1 or 2
Fix the fastbreak where player(other than primary ball catcher) continue to run towards the basket instead of stopping on the wing
Make sure fundamentals are included

During post play the defender can "Pull the Chair" on the offensive player forcing a steal or out of bounds turnover

Allow importing of March Madness players
In CAP make players able to change hairstyles( afro to braids and vice versa, red hair to green hair to orange etc, low cut to need a cut during the course of the season or diffrent games i. e. exhibition mode)

Authentic(for CPU controlled teams)team specific plays and sets( customizable plays for your team)

In Game Save

Custom team Logos and/or names: Angels, Cross, Bats, Wings, Swords, Scorpions, Soldiers, etc..

REMOVE the CPU catch up BUG, it's still in the game. Yao MIng will never catch Tony Parker on the break, never

the ability to follow your shot!!!!!!!!

Remove the stiff player(still in previous animation) after the shot goes up or shot is blocked.

Authentic Team Playbooks with CPU teams playing like real team
CPU players moving on defense and offense like they are supposd
Plays actually being executed in the game when you call for them

In Bounding play calling

Dynasty mode

Fri Oct 22, 2004 5:09 pm

My wishes for Dynasty Mode:

1. Allow 2+ Dynasties in the SAME SEASON!! My brother and I were very frustrated with NHL'04, '05 and Live'04 when we found out we had to play our Dynasties in parallel seasons...

2. Slider for how often CPU initiates trades.

3. Toggle for trade deadline (to switch on/off).

4. Rumour section and other pleasant tid-bits to break the routine.

Sat Oct 23, 2004 4:02 am

My list:

FIX:
• Better physics: no more skating!!
• Better passing mechanics: players running the fastbreak never stop to pass the ball or stop-turn around-jump to receive it either. If the pass is too high they should try to catch it in motion or it should go out of bounds. Bottom line: new fast break dynamics
• When a player is sitting on the floor after a loose ball, not only his pass is impossible to steal but we can't try to force a jump-ball situation. And we have no control when the ball is going out of bounds: player should try to jump from inbounds and pass it or throw it at a guy's feet
• After a blocked shot a player should react instantly and go after the loose ball but instead he gets unconscious for 3 seconds
• If a player like Abdur-Rahim, Bonzi Wells, Joe Johnson comes off the bench he should play a lot more than 10 minutes, as all reserves usually play. There should be some lineup improvisations. We always have to make these subs for the cpu teams.
• When our Center or PF grabs a rebound or gets a steal the Point Guard should come near to them and ask for the ball, but instead he just runs the fastbreak along with the others
• The ball bouncing off the wrong side of the backboard bug when you take it to the rim and collide with the defender, or if you decide to adjust your shot and the player double clutches
• CPU substitutions after the second foul shot.
• Extremely limited-time replays.

ADD:
• Create a Team, Create a League
• In-game save
• Olympic-style competition and national teams (if the license is not possible for non-NBA players, just make editable their appearences and names)
• Situation games
• 2-on-2, 3-on-3 modes
• Players personalities: signature moves, different shooting styles, trade demands, technical fouls, veteran leadership, team chemistry
• Some new commands like fake-passing (direct pass + pivot) and touch-passing (pressing button before the ball is received) would be more than welcome.
• Improve footwork to open the door for multiple low-post moves.
• Smart broadcast and atmosphere: amazing plays and games decided in the last minute should have lots of replays and a strong reaction from Marv. Bench players should stand up in the last minute of a tight game and the whole team celebrate the big win
• Dynasty: all players should have a history of jersey numbers so when Cliff Robinson plays with Iverson he will wear number 30 instead of 4. Also, the generated rookies should wear more common numbers from 00 to 55.
• Dynasty: ability to choose from a rookie patch or cpu generated players when a new season is starting.
• Top 10 plays of the week

Setting Specific Minutes for Simulation

Sat Oct 23, 2004 4:08 pm

There should be a way for us to set the amount of minutes per player when the computer is simulating. Sometimes you wanna play your sixth man for a lot of minutes, or might not want one of the starters to play that long, or for a team like the Grizz do in real life, separate playing time among ALL players.

A nice format to accomplish this is to have a reorder roster page.
There should be 5 columns, one for each position.
Under each column should be a few slots for players, with the top slot being the starter and the bottom slots being reserve players for that slot.
For each slot, you can drag a player into the slot, and then establish the average number of minutes you want that player to play (1-48).
It should be possible to put one player in more than one position. For example, have Lamar Odom start as a PF, and then play reserve minutes at the 3.
On this page one player's minute sum in each column cannot be more than 48 and each column's player minutes cannot add up to 48 minutes.

When I say 48 minutes, this is obviously adjustable depending on how long you set your sim quarters to.

I'm not sure how hard this is to implement. There must already be a system in place because it seems that right now, by default, starters generally play 35mpg or so, and the 6th man plays 25 min, 7th plays 20min, etc..

I think this new feature would greatly enhance the simulation part of the game.. giving us more control of our teams.

Sat Oct 23, 2004 9:32 pm

better role-play mode, improve cpu teammates AI that doesnt need the user to control their shots, etc... cpu controlled timeouts and subs like those in 01. make the user feel that he's just a single player

let the teammate who stand at the baseline corner put himself behind the arc so that when he got a pass from inside, the shot will count as a 3pointer

dont always have the SF do the inbound pass

swingmen change their position automatically on the court. eg. have Artest(sf) guard tmac(sg) and R.Miller guard J.Jackson(pacers vs rockets)

slower defensive rotation/retreating

realistic blocks: in05 players like kobe tmac and lebron even get blocked frequently when they perform fadeaways...dont let that happen in 06

Make online leagues available on Xbox Live. It would make things a lot easier for people who wanted to start leagues.

Mon Oct 25, 2004 3:39 am

Well What I HOPE and WISH they do is make the more hanging time on the rims.

What i mean is that when your on a face break and you throw it down, you can hold the button longer to hang!Thats the best.

AND

THEY NEED TO KEEP THE SLAM DUNK CONTEST AND 3 POINT SHOOT-OUT

and more sick dunks on fast breaks in Normal games

Mon Oct 25, 2004 7:25 am

Temper - For Technical Fouls; If I player is frustated he can get mad and the ref calls a T.

Referees moving through the sidelines

An unquick Tear-drop shot. Please

Much more commentators. I know you've added Kenny and Ernie but it would be nice if it won't be Marv and Czar for every (exhibition) games.

More Alley-oops

Mon Oct 25, 2004 10:50 pm

Free-Style moves for backing down defender.

Being able to finaly turn baseline when backing down defender.

Step-back when backing down defender, could be a Free-Style move.

Signature moves for legends, Bird's pass fake, Magic's wrap-around pass, Kareem's sky-hook, Hakeem's Dream-Shake, Barkley's double-pump shot fake, Barkley's elbow swing after a rebound, etc.

Two handed power lay-ups for big men.

Double-clutch lay-ups in the lane.

The return of big men knocking guards on their asses when dunking on them. Remember, mass + velocity = force.

Retro shoes.

Converse.

For the eleventh year in a row, add a play editor already.

Add a slider that increases and decreases the importance of primacy.

Abilty to choose from rules and play-style of different eras(i.e. three-point line off/on, more/less fast breaks, offensive emphasis on low-post/outside, more/less isolation plays, zone defense allowed/ileagal, 5 second "Barkley rule" off/on).

Using Free-Style to select a player to execute quick plays, especialy for cutter and post-up on offense, and double team on defense.

Clone team option(i.e. if i wanted my created team to be called the boston celtics, play on the celtics court, and use the celtics jersey's i would just clone the celtics without having to use an outside editor).

Retro jerseys for the all-star teams.

Retro courts.

Retro logos.

Outside/practice courts available for selection with 5-on-5 game, doesn't need to be a seperate street-ball game as others suggest.

Wed Oct 27, 2004 12:15 am

create a team feature needs to be in this year and i believe it will be, but honestley how the fuck can they have it in 98 on the station 1 but they cant have it on the xbox????

remember on the old lives 98-99 you could choose to layup high off the glass if you held in L2?? why not have this again for jump shots off the glass allah tim duncan, or up and under moves etc...

there needs to be more than the one on one feature, how hard can it be to have 2 on 2 or 3 on 3....

all star weekend needs to be further improved, have the 2 ball game feature that would be awsome.....

there needs to be a practice feature with likelayup lines give and go shooting, free throw practice, rebounding practice etc like have mini games where you have to try and grab 5 rebounds in a minute etc

Some Ideas :

 Use some buttons on the controller when a foul is called to have an impact on your player's emotions.
When you made a foul that no one can denied, use the "A" button (for example) to play cool, to say, "hey my bad", being fair.
But when you really don't agree with the ref, or if the foul will prevent you from winning, or fouled out your best player, press the "B" button to act a little bit like Wallace.
Pay attention, I'm not saying to become agressive using that button, but just to argue with the refs. If you press the "B" button for too long or too many times that will lead to a flagrant foul. And the ref will call more or a few less fouls wether your are Homecourt or not.
(The video game Top Spin is using that kind of actions.)

 Make NBA LIVE looked like a TV broadcast.
That's the secret of the very good games !
It does this a little bit, but not enough I think, especialy with the cut scenes and the auto Replays.

 Add some Replays a la fifa with the best actions.

Thanks for paying attention.

Two words: Owner mode.

I don't understand why EA puts the best mode in all of video game sports into only one game.

Also, uniform and logo editors would be nice as well. And how about a three-man booth, or a Kenny and Ernie halftime show?

-Very important-

Lane-filling on fast breaks. This has been said plenty of times, because it's important.. I know it's hard to provide balance.. If the AI players start running fast breaks more then the game becomes nothing but a fast-break game.. Solution should be a far lesser accuracy on those mid-to-full court length passes that would start said fast breaks. If you rebound the ball and try to force it the other way, guys should be picking those passes off. But off steals...2-on-1 and 3-on-2 situations should be executed.

Less blocks. Even when sliders are set to 0, the blocks are too high.. Many people say this.. I'm saying it again to get the point across.

More assists. Not so many people say this but a flaw in the game is that actual gameplay is just not conducive to assists, and it's not just a matter of the way I play the game. Every one of my CPU opponents that I play during a season falls way short of their per-game assist average. I think this is a function of the aforementioned difficulty of running a fast break (which would often include an assists) and the lack of plays/difficulty of understanding what said plays are to accomplish. Not much pick-and-pop, defenders are too quick to adjust to their man off the ball coming off screens, etc.

Allow tie-ups of players who have control of the ball after diving.. VERY bad to have what should be a hectic and dynamic time of gameplay be reduced to an automatic pass. A tie up or ball knocked loose of some should happen on about 70% of these plays, the rest being split between successful passes out and traveling calls.

Better recognization of lines on the court! Shots where the shooter has his foot on the line are often called threes. Some are not even close. The diving animation is a problem here too. I had a player dive toward the sideline, half his body was out of bounds and they let it go.

Under no circumstances should a player shoot from behind the backboard. Even if a user "forces" something from that area the player should do everything in his power to get it back in play.

"Aggressive foul" button. Annoying to have whether or not your guy will try to aggresively foul someone left to chance, then have Fratello complain about how you should have fouled him to prevent the basket.

Reduced frequency of the CPU players going for one of those ridiculous dunking animations when trying to put back an offensive rebound.

Quicker responsiveness/execution after certain animations. Catching a pass in the post, having your shot blocked, etc.

Remove the "logo flash" between cut-scenes etc. Replace it with more stat overlays. EA is ridiculously stingy with these things. When talking about who's the key player in the pregame, why not show his season stats? SOME stats should show up on about 80% of trips the line. What's his per game average, how many does he have tonight? What's his season FT percentage? All of these should be shown more often than what college he went to.

Remove any catch-up 'cheats' from every level other than superstar. I've been trying to open up leads on the Bobcats on PRO and my guys inexplicably start clanging dunks and blowing layups. Repeatedly. Same thing happens both ways. If I'm earning a blowout, I should get it. ANd if I'm playing like two pounds of stuffed cabbage, I don't want McGrady to doink two consecutive dunks to help me back into it.

Fix the backcourt violation bug.

More accurate analysis. I got beat by the Rockets, McGrady scored 28 and Fratello said he had a "sub-par game."

Other wishes:

Change foul shot mechanism. Guys over a certain FT rating become automatic from the free throw line. If you increase the difficulty to make stronger FT shooters possible to miss, it becomes way too hard for average and below average shooters to make more than 55%. Example, Luke Jackson (83) and LeBron James (73) both easily average in the 80% range. But Gooden (64) drops sharply to a 64% and Traylor (55) is below 40%. My solution would be to keep the basics of the mechanism the same.. Two moving lines, depending on the shooter's rating. But instead of it being a binary thing (if you're within a certain box, it's good, if not, you miss) have 3-4 (invisible) regions. So if you stop the marker in the very middle (smallest) region the FT % increases by a certain amount (10?). If you stop the marker somewhat outside that area, there's no change. If you're outside, it drops. So if an 80-rated player makes roughly 80% of his FTs, if you stop it right in the middle both times, it increases by 20 and you're basically guaranteed a make. If you miss badly, the liklihood of you missing is increased. Provides a little more intrigue than the current way where you pretty much know if you have it made right off the bat.

I did not get Madden 2005 but certainly player attitudes, etc, sounds like a great addition.

The MLE or some equivalent feature would be key. Option years, extensions, etc would be a glorious addition.

Better and more varied crowd response. EA's sound always seems weak. Speaking of sound, including ref whistles and and end of period horn should be on the "Very Important" part of the list.

Some way to distinguish between "primacy" and "chucker" status. They gave Kidd a 99 in primacy and the result is in simmed seasons he averages 20+points a game. Yeah he should have the ball a lot but he should be hoisting that many shots.

Sortable stats in the postgame stats scene.

Smarter replays. If a steal leads to a layup, we don't want ot see the last 2 seconds of the layup, we want to see the steal.

A play designer utility.. If not that, at least show us what the plays do. More cuts to the basket, in general. Guys do a lot of standing around it seems and I end up calling some play just to get them moving.

Less of the lazy lob passes. At the least make them close to accurate so the defense usually only manages to tip it out of bounds.

Mon Nov 01, 2004 10:59 am

Nothing really important
But I would like to see the refs not just call it but actually review and look at a replay on some buzzer beater shots
