I'm going to say it again, this is the most underated, under-pushed, under-appreciated post on the board. The changes made to this dbf file has astonishing results on the game play. I'm once again blown away at how much better and how much more like their real life counterparts the teams play. And it does seem to effect the defense as well as the offense. You guys have done great work making my $40.00 investment worth it.

hi, i am having trouble getting the plays done

actaully, when i switch them during a game, they dont even switch. they still use the postup, isolate, and the other two.

i can't even try plays like high flyer SG or whatever

i also tried the dbf editor, and was pretty confused.

thanks in advance.

Tap two times the quick play button, that's the way to activate the plays

...
Really I has been interested in another game these month (PES 5), I practically never played NBA Live, but I did a research for the defensive plays. I think they are encrypted, compressed or something like that, so they can't be unlocked. There is only one file I found in the game folder that has the names of the defensive plays, if anyone has free time to see this then:
Open ai.act with EAGraph, and extract zone.act. Open it with Notepad. Look slowly all this. I would like to see guys like alexmary (the one who edited ai.act before) to see this file and investigate, because I can't really figure what these numbers mean...

Fri Dec 30, 2005 12:27 am

I read through the whole text, but I still got some questions:
1. Is it possible to save the offensive, defensive and the team strategys?
2. When yes, is this also possible in a dynasty?

Sun Jan 01, 2006 11:56 pm

eh folks or any strategy experts...wat's the best offensive playbook to be used if i'm playing wif the Lakers?
i'm now usin Shuffle (love it),Triple Threat,Philly and Scorer SG...any suggestions?
i wanna reflect the Lakers more realistic..ly

Mon Jan 02, 2006 6:43 am

help...im interested experiencing the enhancements with the playbooks. ive downloaded the playmap dbf file but where exactly do i put it? what folder? can someone post complete instructions?

To be clear...
i only play ip to ip or me vs pc......i noticed that defensive quickplays are all defaulted to the same 4 plays for all teams....is there a file you guys created that will change the default defensive quick plays depending on the team u choose to play with? if so, please post which file i need and where to put it.

THANKS FELLAZ!!!

Mon Jan 02, 2006 7:06 am

also...if any of you have recommended sliders for ip play let me know....i hate the fact that ip play only allows you to edit 3 or 4 sliders...(quarter lenght, fatigue etc)

Sun Jan 22, 2006 1:56 pm

what about nba live 06 on psp...can i change the quick plays? assign differant quick play commands to differant buttons? or only on a console that i can do that...?

Playmakers wrote:FINAL BASE PLAYBOOKS) For Rosters up to 11/18/05

I went and re-built each teams playbook based on their personel as of 11/18/05. The Mavericks Playbooks is based upon how they utilize Dirk Nowitzki mostly on the perimeter. In order to accomplish this and make him effective in the game when you play Dallas you can use either one of their two playbooks. The second Playbook is more perimeter oriented but Dirk will have to be switched to SF and Josh Howard to PF during the starting lineup. You'll have to assign them to defend their natural posistion on defense in the playbooks settings. Atlanta and Los Angeles have assigned Playbooks for Johnson and Odom as I mentioned before if you choose to use those players as PG's. Otherwise you can stick with their original Playbooks that were assigned.

OK for those who need to update the trade here's what I would do for the Kings and Pacers playbooks.

Artest is a different type of player than Peja he will handle the ball more and attack the rim, while Peja is more of a guy who will come off screens and shoot jumpers. The Plays that best fit's Artest and allows him to create on his own or attack the basket for Sactown would be Scorer SF or Double Back Screen and for Peja in Indiana I would add Sonic or Zipper.

New Pacers Playbook-High Screen
Sonic/Zipper
Single Double
Power PF
Scorer PF

New Kings Playbook-Options
Single Double
Scorer SF/Double Back Screen
Playmaker
Power PF

I put the file in my currentdb folder - and it changed nothing.
Same defensive plays popped up for me - and same offensive plays.

Does it just change the cpu's playbook?

can these be used for online play?

Wed Feb 01, 2006 5:01 am

super quick question: will all these plays stick when you try ip to ip or easo? or do they default back?

Wed Feb 01, 2006 7:26 am

this is sweeeeet, nice find here (Y) (Y)

There's only one problem with using the download Playmaker sets: if you make even one change to your rosters, you're screwed. The playsets revert back to the old EA settings.
That really sucks.
So I'm stuck using Indiana with Ron Artest, until Playmakers' file is updated.

Fri Feb 03, 2006 2:22 pm

What???? That make no sense what so ever. You changed your roster and you .dbf files got changed? Highly unlikely.

No joke. I'm talking exhibition games here ... not dynasty or season.
I traded Artest to Kings for Stojakovic ... and bingo, strategy settings reverted back to EA default.

Playmaker has put in a lot of work, but I don't know if he has all the right plays for each team. If any of you guys remember, I was heavily involved in coming up with real team plays on the NBA Live 2004 forum last year. A combination of many real-life things (including my entire computer dying!) took me out of the loop for a while, and I only got NBA Live 06 a few days ago. However, I still kept up with my hobby during all this time, and I've been watching/taping games, taking notes, and doing online research. I came up with a list of plays that included every team, although it is not complete. I will be posting my list soon, after I've found/gathered all my notes.

One problem is that it's hard to relate the conventional plays (you can read about some of them here) that I've observed to the ones in Live 06. It wasn't that hard for NBA Live 2004 and 2005, since they had a conventional list of plays, as well as animated play diagrams (in 2004 at least). Although they came up with some alternative names, the animated play diagrams in 2004 allowed me to relate a bunch of their plays to the ones on the site I linked to. NBA Live 06, on the other hand, seems to have a bunch of different plays (or at least differently named), as well as unconventional, current team specific plays. Since I only recently got Live 06, I currently do not have a full understanding of which plays are named what in the game, and which might have been completely removed.

Yesterday I posted on that Operation Sports forum in an attempt to start a dialogue with Playmakers. I think the two of us can bring even more realism to the game.

Also, can anyone help me (and everyone else) by finding all the links to the Lamisil-sponsored animated play diagrams that have appeared on NBA.com? They seem to be what Live 06 is drawing many team-specific plays (and their names) from. These pages all still exist. Unfortunately, they are poorly organized and buried. There isn't a single index page with links to all the plays they've explained over the years. Instead, each season they post different plays, with the page of a play having links to only the previous plays of THAT season (so the first play they go over won't have a link to the second, and you can forget about any direct links to previous seasons).

This is one of the diagrams from this season:

Milwaukee Bucks 1-3-1 play - I don't know if this is in the game or not.

With some searching, I found this play from last season. Since it appeared relatively late in the 2004-2005 season, it links to a whopping six other animated play diagrams. I don't know if there are any plays that come later in that season though. I checked the game, and most of them are in it, with the same or similar names:

Houston's Rocket Fuel - This goes by the same name in Live 06. It's used frequently by the Rockets, and is a variation of their primary play which goes by Highflyer SG in Live 06 (AKA "Stagger" from previous NBA Live games, and originally named "Hawk" in real life.)

Besides the Rockets, "Highflyer SG" is the primary play of the Pistons (this is what people mean when they talk about Rip running off of multiple screens) and the Timberwolves. In my research, I also saw the Heat and Bulls doing it occasionally, and (I think) the Blazers.

Seattle's Double Trouble - This is known as "Sonic" in NBA Live 06. Designed to free up a 3pt shot in the corner through the use of double screens.

Chicago's Bulls-Eye - Goes by the same exact name in Live 06. This is a very basic play, and is essentially a side Pick-and-Roll with the other players spotting up for open shots on the weakside perimeter.

Philidelphia's Threedom - This is named "Philly" in Live 06. I believe that it's the "1-4" play from previous Live games, although I can't say for certain since I don't have 2004 anymore.

Phoenix Rising - This is called "Rising Sun" in Live 06. This is a deadly but basic play, and it is essentially a Pick-and-Roll in the middle of the court (between Nash and Amare), with the other players spotting up for open shots around the perimeter.

Boston Block Party - This isn't exactly the same play, but it is very similar to the "Boston" play in Live 06. Both of them involve a player cutting diagonally across the court across two screens for an open shot. In the NBA.com diagram, the cutter is the PF. He starts with the ball but hands it off to the PG, who in turn passes it to the SG, who is the one to make the final pass. In the game, the PG starts with the ball and acts as a cutter. There is one less pass in the game, with that player instead spotting up in the weakside corner.

Denver's Balanced Attack - This is called "Screen Game" in Live 06. Three players start near the right corner, while the PG and another player starts on the left side. One of the three players on the right receives a double down screen from the other two, while the PG gets a side Pick-and-Roll. The PG can either pass to his picker (who is now rolling to the basket) or the guy who just got open for a jumpshot.

Basically, if a play in the game has a team's name in it (Boston, Rising Sun, etc.), it means that the team uses that play.

ya gd job man, i was thinking that they r the ones on nba.com b4 too, gd job boy@!!!!! (Y)

Sun Feb 19, 2006 6:15 pm

I think Playmakers made his playbooks to take advantage of the best players on each team offensively. For example I thought using the Rocket Fuel play would be good for Houston aswell but what it did was instead of allowing T-Mac to get most of the shots it kept having Sura, Wesley or who ever was playing SG take more shots than T-Mac. So, I'm thinking that Playmakers might have noticed this and that's probably why he did'nt make it the Rockets main play. That's just my gut feeling as to why he might have left it off. But if you play Houston using the playbook he designed I know for sure T-Mac will get his 20-24 shots because he did it vs me in my Lakers dynasty in both games I played the against the Rockets. He dropped in 42 points on me in one game.

Mon Feb 20, 2006 9:10 pm

@DR13 and all the others..

Okay, I get that each play has a certain number

Just see this plays with their numbers:
0 - Shooter A
1 - Balance
2 - Rocket Fuel
3 - Triple Threat

Nevertheless I don't understand how to change the plays for my team. I'm playing Live in an online league (Milwaukee Bucks) and I hardly need to change my plays, cause the Bucks have Shooter plays and I need at least one play for my go-to-guy Kevin Garnett. So what does that suppose to mean:

Go to the playmap.dbf. in the currentdb folder, in My Documents. It isn't inthe saves dbfs.
There search these columns: OFF_1, OFF_2, OFF_3 and OFF_4
Play number 1 is: OFF_3
Play number 2 is: OFF_4
Play number 3 is: OFF_2
Play number 4 is: OFF_1

Put the numbers of the plays corresponding for each team (search in teams.dbf the IDs) in the order Playmaker has set. Close the dbf, and copy it if you want, to originaldb and workingdb.

How can I really change these plays, so that my bucks have for example: Shooter B, Scorer PF, Double Power and .. another good play: S5: Cassell, Redd, Sczcerbiak, Garnett, Battie

Can someone help me?

small Break through on plays for Dirk and Rasheed

Tue Feb 21, 2006 11:52 pm

What is up to all of the Flees amongst Flees. I've been in the background enjoying this lovely game. One day, I was viewing Tarply's Playbook and I noticed one of the most exciting plays in the game; The Flare.
That's right simple and very sweet. That is what the Flare is!

This play is for players like Dirk, Rasheed, Radmonovich (spelling) and other big men that likes to shoot from the perimeter or play the drive game. This particular play is really great for Dirk, because he can play the Power Forward and be at natural form. On the Defensive End, You can snatch defensive rebounds with Dirk run the floor launch three or jumpers and play Mavrick Style basket ball. However, when it's time to set up that play for Dirk, it's the Flare. If a small Player is Guarding Dirk, shoot a Jumper all day long. If there is a slow Bum on Dirk Drive to the basket.

The play is the Flare: The Flare is awesome because the point gaurd has several different options. Not as many options as other plays, but the options it has can be leathal if the play is ran correctly.

If you look at Tarply's playbook, he breaks the play down to percession.
The point gaurds comes off a pick, if he is open bombs away! If he has a clear cut to the basket, drive to the hoop! If the point gaurd is covered follow the script. Once you clear the pick, you have an option to hit a cutting sg gaurd for a midrange jump shot or drive to the basket, but the main option is to hit your power forward on the right side perimeter. He will always be open and ff youre playing with the Mavs, Dirk will always get his shot off, if he is playing the PF position.

I set this play for the Mavs and the Pistons. It makes Dirk score more like he does in real life. He will hoist up threes, aswell for Rasheed. So experiment with the Flare and see what results you will get with Dirk at the PF spot.

1) Open playmap.dbf with DB Commander 2000 PRO
2) Search the TEAMNUM for Milwaukee (15). You can know that in teams.dbf. The numbers you will put must be in that row.
3) See the four numbers to the right, in the columns OFF_1 to OFF_4. I have 16, 7, 10 and 5. It doesn`t matter what numbers you have, you'll replace them anyways.
4) Now look at my first instructions, and the list. If you want Shooter B (29) as first play, Scorer PF (26) as second, and Double Power (16) as third, then:
a) Replace the number you have in the OFF_3 column with 29. That's the first play.
b) Replace the number you have in the OFF_4 column with 26. That's the second play.
c) Replace the number you have in the OFF_2 column with 16. That's the third play.
d) Replace the number you have in the OFF_1 column with another play (for example, Flare (15)). That's the fourth play.
Now, you must have to the right of 15 (TEAMNUM), these numbers: 15, 16, 29, 26. Close!
5)Hope that helps. Enjoy. :)

I tried to explain the process as simple as possible, maybe I exagerated a bit.

That's wrong. The plays have nothing to do with rosters, they are in playmap.dbf. It doesn't have anything to do with players.dbf, teams.dbf or anothers...

Just to be sure, first do those roster changes (that trade), and THEN copy the last playmap.dbf uploaded by engies to the currentdb folder in My Documents. Then, if you want, replace the plays for those specific teams (I am pretty sure that with the instructions I gave in the first page and in my previous post everybody should be capable to do that without problems)
