Installing Patches for Dummies

Postby R.J. on Wed Apr 19, 2006 11:30 am

Since there have been a zillion questions about where to put downloads and such, I am compliling this little thread of where to put the files you downloaded. Every patch that you download is going to go somewhere in the main directory of NBA Live. This is C:\Program Files\EA Sports\NBA Live 06.

Cyberfaces:

If it is a cyberface that overwrites a player that EA Sports has in their original roster, then you can put it right into the game without any dbf editing. For example: LeBron James. His PLYRPKG is lejames, combining the first two letters of his first name with the first five from his last. The file type is .fsh

If the cyberface is for a player not made by EA Sports (example: Smush Parker), consult this thread by Cable Guy: http://www.nbaliveforums.com/ftopic3517 ... bf+editing

INSTALLATION: NBA Live 06/SGSM

Portriats:

This is basically the same as cyberface. Read above. However, its file type is .big

INSTALLATION: NBA Live 06/SGSM

Shoes:

See this thread by Andreas Dahl, it is great for this: http://www.nbaliveforums.com/ftopic23539.php&highlight=

Jerseys:

*If it is a .viv file, place it in NBA Live 06/SGSM/Uniforms
*If it is a .fsh file, place it in NBA Live 06/SGSM

If it is a created jersey, for example, a Saint Patrick's day jersey, then you will need to add the necessary .dbf lines in TEAMGEAR.dbf. Usually provided in readme.

Courts:

*If it is a .viv file, place it in NBA Live 06/SGSM/Stadiums
*If it is a .fsh file, place it in NBA Live 06/SGSM

Other/Misc.

Read the readme. If it is an odd one like font change, audio, etc., it will usually be provided. If not, take a few minutes to PM the maker of the patch, and he/she will probably give you instructions.

Good stuff. (Y) You should add that if it's a new jersey, you need to add a .dbf line to the teamgear.dbf as well as putting the files in the right spots.

about the cyber faces, what if we want to use it to overwrite a player already in the game, like say i just wanted to put adam morrison's face onto another persons body, do a little dbf editing and have him in the game??? I'm kind of new to this patching stuff, so sorry if it is a stupid question. the reason is I would like to just a generated rook with morrison after my year 1 draft.

I think you can. If you would like him to be first overall, I think that you find the player that is projected there and change his name, weight, etc. I don't know how to do ratings though.

That usually means your video card isn't good enough. Do you know what kind of card you have?

My court flickers, but only on the play now mode. If I go to a season or a dynasty or playoffs, it never flickers. I have no idea what my card is, it is just whatever came with my laptop.

Try turning your detail settings down and see if it helps.

I'm hoping you guys can help me out with this but whenever i try to open "my computer" or any folder for that matter i get an error like microsoft visual C++ runtime library or something. so it wont let me get to the folders i need to to put my patches. like i am ok with getting on the internet and doing roster patches but i cant do anything else. so if you have any other ways to patch without opening any folders or a way to solve this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Just two tips here, there wasn't really a need to post your problem in two spots. Glad you got it fixed (actually, glad I helped, hehe) though.

Second tip- use the 'edit' button on your previous post instead of double posting. It tends to tick people off. :D

I don't know about the Real Shoes patch, but Seraph has made a similar patch (20 something of them, in fact) that is available at 4th Quarter. Some are in .exe format, the others are easy to install. Have you seen it?

The shoeacc.dbf file goes into one of your save folders, the locale.eng (there's not one in every Part) and the rest of the files go in the sgsm folder. Around Part 20, I think, he started using .exe files. The Accurate Shoes have a readme in them that tells you what to do, those are easy. Make sure you download every Part, in order, and replace all the shoeacc.dbf and locale.eng with the most recent ones.
