Transferring data records using DB Commander

Fri Jun 06, 2008 12:36 pm

Hope some guys can shed some light on a few issues that I have.

I was experimenting with the DB Commander and I transferred player data (players.dbf) by opening to 2 different roster side by side. Then I encountered some problems:

1. Cyberface was the correct skin color in contrast with a wrong body color. (e.g Scott Williams' face with a white body). How do I get his body to be of the same color as his face?

If the issue can be resolved, can I transfer other players' by replacing the draft rookies with these players? Is there a limit to the number of players I can transfer?

2. During the data transfer process, will DB Commander replace one of the existing players from the roster to make way for this transferred player or will it just add on? I could be wrong, but I thought I saw one of the player being replaced.

3. After deleting the transferred player data from the roster via DB Commander, the player still remains in the roster/lineup. How do I remove the player from the roster completely?

4. Prior to Dynasty mode, there is a large pool of free agents; however when I'm into my first season of Dynasty mode, the free agents seem to have shrunk in numbers. Is there a way using DB Commander to bring the rest of the free agents back to the pool?

Or is it possible to locate a specific player in players.dbf? Cos' I tried to locate some players who "used to be" in the free agent pool but they aren't there anymore when i use DB Commander... :?:

1. Appearance related data is stored in the "appearance.dbf".
2. I do not think any player will be replaced.
3. Did you forget to load the rosters in game?
4. Maybe you did something wrong during the transferring.
5. Maybe that player accidentally got replaced, or deleted.

Sorry that I have only solved one of your problems...

Hi CKal

1. I went to the rosters and transferred the data from "appearance.dbf" to the roster, but without much luck either... Still had the face with white body issue.

Thanks for trying to help, appreciate that! ;)

hey bobz i think you're talking about my roster right? the skin is part white...i think you can fix it by editing the appearance file in your save folder but you have to edit the number yourself...

Hi Bleachfan, regardless of the rosters that I used, the difference is really obvious. Imagine the face of Scott Williams (tan/brown) with a white colored body.

I went to the appearance file to edit the numbers (by comparison using the original data) by to no avail.

Deleting rows in the database doesn't work; normally when you want to remove a player, you should change his TEAM attribute to 32. In this case, I'd restore from a backup.

The game automatically prunes the lower rated players from the Free Agent pool. I'd recommend doing this yourself before you start a Dynasty; in my rosters, I generally remove anyone who is unlikely to return to the NBA by changing their TEAM to 32. However, you could also try importing data for the players that have been pruned back into players.dbf (remember to do their entries for appearance.dbf as well).

Thanks for shedding light on this.

This is the issue which I've highlighted in point 1; whereby I did that for player like Scott Williams, he has a brown head and white body. I've tried to edit his appearance.dbf file but it doesn't seem to work.

Also, I noticed when I import data from the original player.dbf, it seem to replace one of the players.

If I understand correctly, if players are pruned due to lower ratings, they will not be retrieveable from the player.dbf file in the save folder unless I import them from the original data file?

Correct.

Okie dokie! Thanks for the advice, Andrew! (Y)

What about the cyberface and body issue? Did I miss any procedure which I didn't follow?

Sounds like a conflict with appearance.dbf, either a missing entry or perhaps a wrong ID number.
