I'm stuck. Choppiness/slow response question. Help?

Ok, so I've been having this problem lately that I haven't had before.

I just got a new video card and have been playing the games pretty much to the max potential and loving it. However, lately even at the lowest levels(I mean like 800x600 low detail etc) my games have been really choppy. I will try now my best to explain what goes on. I will use NBA Live 2006 as my example .

So I will start up the game and it will go through all the beginning things fine. The EA Sports guy does his thing and I get to the main menu. I go to my franchise and play a game and usually even this starts out ok. Over a little bit of time, things get kind of choppy, but ok. However, as I go on in the game, it gets worse and around the 3rd quarter and beyond, I cannot even see myself run down the floor really. Like I will somehow get from one side to the other without seeing me move. Very detrimental to playing defense. :x Sometimes, if I have just started my computer or something like that, I can make it through one game. If that's true, the second game...not so much.

That's just part of it. What really bogs the game down for me however is simulating off days/scouting draft class/roster managment etc. Switching from screen to screen becomes slower and slower and response time when I click to simulate a day or getting to the next day on the calendar gets to the point where I just exit. Then, saving takes forever. :)

Like I said before, I just got the new vid. card. I also tested this out with my old card (ATI Radeon 9550) which ran NBA Live perfectly before. Same thing...no difference at all b/t the two so I really do not think it's the cards.

Any thoughts? Here's the computer specs:
Vid Card: ATI Radeon x1950 pro agp
Intel Celeron CPU 2.80 GHz
512 MB of RAM
80 GB of Hard Drive space...22.9 used.

Any thoughts would be so helpful.
thanks,
Phil

Edit: This goes for all my games. Madden 2004, FIFA 2007, MOH, MVP 2005, and more of the same.

Has anything else changed? Do you notice any difference in performance in Windows itself?

Yup, I think I'm sold that it's either a memory issue or a hard drive issue. Certainly something with the hardware.

For instance, when I get to this website and click to respond to your post Andrew, the faces on the side load slower than they used to. Does anyone know a good way to test your system to find out if something is wrong with the hardware?
