Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

still, i dont see the point in having a half-assed roster. it does take up disc space though.

Well again, not too much. But I agree that it's the principle...it doesn't feel right to see such a depleted Legends roster. The other decades are still strong though.

well.. my 90's all star team is fine right now...
Tell ya the truth I wish there was a east and west for each 10 years...
I grew up seeing Magic vs Bird, Thomas vs Magic, Magic vs Jordan, Jordan vs Drexel, and every thing else up untill now.
Really I don't feel right playin with the 90's as much as I would with the 90's east or west. Lol
As far as that goes I would love to see EA put every team that has made it to the championship win or loose.
Give the people something worth thier money. Its not like they have done crap over a one year period.
We just keep inching up to a perfect game. I don't see anything happening for quite awhile though...

that will never happen. id much rather see that space/time used for other things....and besides, they'd never get all the player rights anyway. they have a hard enough time filling up one 90's team. lets not add another. and as for every team that made the finals.....since when? thats two teams each year, for over 100 years. 200 teams. uh...no.

Significant championship teams would be cool but as koberulz already pointed out, there's enough trouble getting a handful of former greats in the game, let alone entire teams.

donde esta dennis rodman? hahahaahaha
the legends are weak at the PF spot. Pretty much it's just Larry Bird.

Why cant they do it the same way it is done in Madden? Madden has dozens upon dozens of historical teams. Most teams have three or four historical rosters, as well as an all-franchise team. That is one thing I like doing. Who wouldnt wanna Lakers team with Magic, Baylor, West, Worthy, Abdual Jabar, Shaq, Kobe and others. Or what about boston? EA does it with Madden, why not with NBA live?

Because the NBA Live production team isn't dealing with NFL and it's likely the Madden team doesn't have the same legal issues facing them when it comes to putting in former players and all-time teams.

Why would the legal issues be any different? I would think the laws would be very similar in putting people in video games, regaurdless of the sport. I guess it could have something to do with a difference in players union policies??? I dunno. I madden they just put a player with ratings on the team, and then give him a name like WR #71. Like on the 49ers there would be a WR with a 99 rating, it wouldnt have Rice's number in the name, but we can all figure out who it is supposed to be. Just like they did a few times with Jordan in NBA live, only i believe they even used his jersey number, correct?

Answered your own question.

That is to say, that's the impression I'm under, that there are certain small technicalities that differ between the two leagues and the respective unions and that game developers are differently handicapped (or face no roadblocks at all) when adding former players as a result.

Kind of. The ratings were there but he was called "Roster Player" and wore a jersey number in the 80s or 90s. NBA Live 97 was the closest to using his real stats and so forth though. It had two Roster Players, one representing Michael Jordan and the other Charles Barkley. Strangley, the Bulls' Roster Player wore #24, was drafted 4th overall in 1985 and was born in Queens, NY. The Rockets' Roster Player was drafted 6th overall in 1985, wore #3 and was born in Mobile, AL. Or something like that. Their bio data was very close to be accurate, save for a couple of details (almost always one higher/lower for the year/draft position etc).

Another difference between Madden and Live would be likenesses. In Madden all players wear helmets so no effort is given to the faces, in Live the faces are shown, so we'd expect the "roster players" to look somewhat like the actual player. If Live didn't make a good enough likeness, we'd bitch like we always do, if the likeness is too good, they get sued.

Excellent point, OFS. That certainly does offer an advantage to the Madden team.
