Gamepad + Keyboard Not Recognized, Going crazy

I recently bought and installed Live 06 for the PC, and for some reason I can't select sides, or navigate through the menus using my keyboard or my gamepad.

When the intro screen/demo stuff comes onto the screen, I can hit X on the controller and advance to the main load screen. However the menus and side selections won't recognize anything I hit. I can navigate through the menus with my mouse, but when I get to the point to select which side to be on, nothing.

I've got two other E.A. Sports 2006 games (madden and nhl) and they work fine.

Does anyone have any idea why this isn't working? I've re-installed twice before signing up here hoping someone can help....

you can't choose sides with your controller. You do that by clicking on the small arrow next to the controller. When it's on the correct side, click on the controller and choose which controller-configuration you want to use. Basically, do everything with the mouse, except actually playing
