WORK ETHIC and LEARNING values for Created Players.

Hi, everyone. First of all, since I assume mine are a bunch of noob/dumb questions, I must say: Yes, I have done a previous search all around the forums. In fact, I have been reading topics and more topics for a couple of days. But some doubts still remain unsolved.

Another disclaimer: I am totally new, not only to the forums, but to the NBA Live series. Ok, let's go:

Basically, what I am trying to do is to create a new player from scratch. This player is vaguely "based" on myself :lol: but I have no intentions of adding a cyberface/portrait, etc.

I just want to create this player in-game (not through DBF editor). My idea is to give him some crappy stats and start a new Dinasty with him in the free agents roster. But the problem is that I want his stats to develop a lot via training, etc. in that dinasty. So, i NEED a player with this high improvement potencial in order to start this new Dinasty. Otherwise it will make no sense. I did a previous experiment and was totally a failure because my crappy young player was even LOOSING stats in the first off-season, despite the MASSIVE training i scheduled for him all along the season.

According to a lot of topics I have read, this (the improvement potencial) is based on three hidden values: DESTINY, LEARNING and WORK ETHIC. And those can be edited trough some DBF editor. Ok. I downloaded DB COMMANDER, opened players.dbf...etc. etc. (I found my created player had a DESTINY value of 4).

Well....after a lot of trial and error I seem to be stuck at the next point:

I am in the second year of a Dinasty, with my created player (version nº XXX). His DESTINY value is 1 -which is fine for me-. But everytime I check his LEARNING and WORK ETHIC values, there's nothing there. Not even a "0". There's simply no value at all. And I know -for previous experience- that the game will eventually crash if I put numbers there. I have been checking and checking and those fields are always empty. So, my question is ¿when will those values be assigned? I am waiting for the program assignment just in order to change them in case they happened to be too low.

For further information, I have NBA Live 06 NLSC Current Roster Update installed.

I'm not sure they've ever assigned. I wasn't aware adding a number there caused a crash, I've never seen that happen. But I will say it's extremely weird it isn't assigned in the first place, even randomly a la DESTINY. As a roster maker, I'd love to have all those attributes accessible from within the game. I think there'd be far fewer problems and it would make the task much easier.

Yes. But this is only related to in-game created players, isn't it? Frustrating...

Therefore, i wonder how those players' improving ratios are "calculated". Yes, weird....to say the least.

I opened players.dbf of a previous savegame in order to see which values had assigned (WE and LEARNING) a particular auto-generated draft rookie who had very good development trough 2 or 3 seasons (untill I quit playing that Dinasty). I thought I could assign my brand new created player those values in order to grant him good potencial (apart of DESTINY, of course). I found a 96 at LEARNING and a 2 at WE.

When I edited my new created player and assigned those values to him, the game crashed when the next training campus was about to finish. Was the only change I did, so...here in Spain we use to say: "White and inside of a bottle... it should be milk" :cool:

Started again the season from scratch with my new player, not editing those values, and all seems to be fine. But, of course....LEARNING and WORK ETHIC are still empty. After a couple of seasons.

BREAKING NEWS :mrgreen:

During the third season, after the all-star weekend, I have made check and....¡surprise! a "0" has appeared in LEARNING. WORKETHIC still remains empty tough.

The last time i checked it was after the training campus, just at the season start.

I am totally lost. Now what am I supposed to do with this "0"? Can I change the number? doing so will cause a crash? If not...does this "0" mean that my created player is doing all that training for nothing?

Will this "0" remain "as is", or another change must be expected?

The truth is out there...
