I never bother with allstar weekend so that is no big deal.

I do play dynasty but i play all 82 games and after i win it all i start another one with a different team(last week i finished my 82games with NJN and the playoffs in which i played every game and have yet to even check out the finals MVP because now im 11 games into my ATL dynasty).

As far as freestyle superstars yea its nice to have the highflyers on the break dunkin on people but the only moves i really use are some of the passes and the post up fade away moves. I will definitely miss these moves but that wont make or breake the game IMO.

Wit the thought of a realistic lookin game and decent game play thats enough for me for EA's first time around. I hear some flaws with the gameplay but there isnt a sports game on the market that doesnt have flaws in it. For most people live missin these features will make them steer clear of it which is cool cause if thats wat u want and u know ur not gonna get it then this game isnt for u its that simple but for me its enough for now.

No All-Star Weekend mean no All-Satr game. There are problems with the camera angles and the camera zoomign system. I have to admit, NBA 2k6 seems like a better game than nba live 06 on the 360.

I can seriously count the number of times i played the allstar game on 06 on one hand which is once for my NJN dynasty. i also did the 3pt contest and dunk contest jus once because of that dynasty. last year i played the allstar game one weekend with my friend, cousin, and brother in which we were jus tryin to throw self alley oops to our selves and to each other. we did a couple 3pt shootouts and a dunk contest. allstar weekend is nice dont get me wrong but its not something im gonna miss since i dont play it.

As far as the camera angles i dont know how that will be every yr something is wrong in someones opinion with the camera. i use baseline low and this year the transition in switches of possesions was slow in some peoples minds. I c wat they mean after playin it but thats nothing to me.

2k6 is better to some people than live every year including this year so its up to the user. I myself havent liked 2k6 since it left dreamcast. Im basically sayin 4 the way I play live losing these features arent enough to make me think this live on 360 is a total loss at least for the way i play.

We played 5 games each on Live and 2k6 and then some Perfect Dark Zero split screen which was fun and the game looks incredible. Then we played some Project Gotham 3 which was freaking great. I wish I could have played Madden one of my favorite games.. Like I said the Live was really cool and I was enjoying it quite a bit then we threw in 2K6 and it won me over. We where playing 2k6 on Hall of Fame difficulty playing against one another. It felt and looked like a actual game going on screen. The Live game just felt sluggish and slowed to much. We tweaked it some on the sliders and it helped out a lot. The free throw thing in Live is really hard to do because you don't really know how to judge your input. I think I was like 4 for 15 from the line on Live  You can also run 2k6 at 1080i and Live is only 780p and I will be running it on a 62" Mitsubishi 1080p DLP set so it should really look nice. Trust me Jae I have hated 2k6 the last couple of years and have played hundreds of games on Live on my PC. I don't post much here and might look like a noob here because I have been a lurker around here forever. I usually just read and download but I wanted to get involved with the discussions on the 360. Hope this clears it up.
Mike

Yep sorry I didn't read your first post fully... if I had to pick a game to buy it would be 2K6. I've been saying for the last year that Live seems to regress while 2K Sports are actually making progress in their games. I still haven't played Live 06, and from what I hear I'm not really missing out on too much.

Mike

the gameplay might be sweet, but as far as im concerned, without a dynasty mode, there is no game.

It is a game, that's why I want to do something different. I can play basketball in real life any time, but I can't go purchase a team and make all the trades and stuff can't I? Or do you want me to cry in my room and amass a 50 billion dollar fortune and buy off a team? I doubt that would happen. Plus Franchise mode is the key reason why people even bother to play single player in the first place.

Yea think about it. What if I wanted to play basketball alone? SInce, I could with two people play realistic basketball, can't I? However, I can't play realistic basketball with one person. So what do I do then? Play an NBA video game. Now, if the NBA game doesn't have a franchise mode, then the single player will run dry after a few minutes.

Mon Nov 21, 2005 3:13 am

Like I said in the previous post if thats your stick and so important to you I guess you will have to buy 2K6. I personally don't give a shit about it. I played the 3 point contest last night for the hell of it and to be honest it was pretty boring. I just don't get into what the prices of hotdogs are and if I can build a dream team so I never lose a game. You obviously play the game for total different reasons and I respect that. Laxative though is acting like the fucking moron over this. Its like hes stomping his feet and pouting and he's going to show big old EA's ass. WHo really gives a shit if he buys it or not. I was just trying to explain the 2 games different approaches. He will see when he tries them both. In the end that's the only way any of us will be able to tell. What I think makes a good b-ball game is much different than what you think and I respect you and the moron. :o

your the one acting like a fucking moron
im talking about how shit the game will be without dynasty mode, and you come in and start talking down to me like your so fucking great
so you know what, go fuck yourself (Y)

What I think makes a good b-ball game is much different than what you think

what does this mean? you enjoy getting a game only to find out its different from what you had hoped and expected?
a good game is one that doesnt go backwards. live 06 has gone backwards by taking out the features they did.

Mon Nov 21, 2005 12:06 pm

I'll wait till 2007. Live didn't make enough improvements gameplay wise to take out all the features, and while 2K6 is improved and has better gameplay, they ported current gen from this game, and it's basically the exact same thing with touch ups and a graphics upgrade.

Mon Nov 21, 2005 4:10 pm

I can't believe I paid $60 for this game.

Tue Nov 22, 2005 7:15 am

Basically they removed these features Free-Style Super Stars, All Star weekend, Dunk Contest and Dynasty mode.

I can live without the Dunk Contest and All-Star weekend 3 point contest but the lack of Dynasty hurts more than anything. But from reading the article it's not blasting the game for gameplay it's ripping it for limited features. The gameplay seems to be the focus point by EA which is good but I will miss not having Dynasty mode.

Tue Nov 22, 2005 9:37 am

if the game play is the real focus and they get that down with minor flaws then thats better than havin all the features and poor gameplay wit major flaws. im sure most would agree gameplay is most important and if thats done rite then dynasty and everything else wen they are implemented will fall rite into place. too me if dynasty mode is messed up or some other feature is messed up then thats not gonna kill the game but if gameplay is the poorest thing on the game then for me their is no reason to play it. live has yet to disappoint me in that factor and wen i get it tommorrow i hope that streak continues

Wed Nov 23, 2005 9:25 am

Live is actually pretty decent

Wed Nov 23, 2005 10:12 am

For me to enjoy it it would have to be the greatest basketball game ever made to make up for the lack of well... anything.

Wed Nov 23, 2005 10:49 am

After spending an hour on this game, I will never play the current gen Live again.

I believe this was an overhaul that will benefit Live in the long run.

IGN lost all credibility in my opinion.

mikemach wrote:If you download the video of this review you can really hear this guys hate for this game and it almost comes off to me as if he is a 2k6 fanboy. The guy reminds me of someone who didn't get his pre play copy and is showing his ass to them now for screwing him over.

Yeah, except it's the same guy who reviewed the XBOX version and scored it a 9.0.

The Live team failed here. It's very clear and saying otherwise is just trying to justify a $510 purchase you recently made.
(Maybe I'll change my mind if the gameplay is improved since everyone says it's "more realistic"...but I've heard that for how many years now...I suspect AT BEST it's just like 2004 to old gen's 2003...which isn't a big enough jump to justify a purchase.)

It was clear this was going to fail when GameSpot posted that four page interview that talked about nothing but graphics, while their one page interview with the 2K guy talked about gameplay infinately more.

Oh, there's a "cool" loading screen? WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT LOADING SCREENS? It's stupid to begin with and will get old very quickly. They might as well let me play Galaga, that'd be more fun.

One line from the IGN review sums it up:
and the default quarter length is now eight minutes in order to get more realistic NBA stats and scores (or so EA says)

EA can't compete with 2K if they can't even make the default quarter length to be the same as a real life NBA game's quarter length.

Both teams wanted to get a game out for release, the 2K team touched up graphics on a port (like they did with their first XBOX and PS2 versions don't forget), while Live put out a graphically superior but otherwise inferior product with gaping holes.

I hear Madden and FIFA are crap too. Between this debacle and Battlefield 2's patch being an expansion pack...

At least I might stopped being called an EA fanboy because I run an NBA Live site that's illegal in Britain.

I would've settled for Pong, or since it's next gen, Donkey Kong.

I got to say that I f^)*ng hate this version bigtime. Everytime I play it I find something more to get pissed off about. This is the first time I've liked a 2k game over a Live in several years. The cameras to far away its slow ass f@%k speed drags it down for me also. The graphics are sweet but its laggy at times. 2K6 is like playing in a real game or watching one. It has its flaws but it smokes the Live on this version. Plus I can run it at 1080i HD. Madden is a f%^$&ng abortion!! Period!!! I'd take Live back if my buddy would let me and not give me 20 bucks LOL.

I actually like this game, I think Live 07 for Xbox 360 will be amazing. This is a good foundation for the Live series. I'm a little upset that this stripped down version was still $60 but hey, what the hell. I just spent $400 on a system what is another $60 more?

It's not really a game you could spend hours and hours on but I think it will be a fun game just to pick up and play. I'm really "feeling" the new graphics.

I also forgot to add something, the commentary in Live is amazing. I love it. Kerr and Marv Albert are funny and so far it hasn't gotten old yet.

Thu Nov 24, 2005 7:31 am

The commentary is funny he was making fun of me lastnight telling me to lay off the jump button. :)

Same here, and doing back court violations.

Thu Nov 24, 2005 7:55 am

hm. 6.4 or something on gamespot, they were a bit more generous.

What do you think about the speed of the game? I had it up to 95 and then the thing ran laggy and the guy's would jitter like which is just as bad. I'll keep playing around with the settings and see what I can come up with.

I really haven't messed with the settings too much. Right now my game speed is at 47 and I'm getting a lot of fast breaks. I think the speed is pretty good and I haven't had any lag, yet.

The new free throw system is tough to get use to but I think I'm getting the hang of it now. I was so frustrated at it during this one game. I went 0/21. Urgh.
