your display memory is too low and can't handle the game.
only thing you can do is upgrade the videocard.

Sometimes the game plays. Is that typical or does it crash when it feels like it?

Is the game card the Geforce thing? Is that something I can download or do I have to purchase?

Thanks

in theory you can, but it's hard and expensive.
for gaming and upgrading a normal pc is always best. it'll cost you some money though...
