Regular Joe Hook Shot?

I've posted this in the superstar moves thread but was unsure if that was the proper place to post.
I've used the search and can't find a definitive answer. Is it possible for a regular guy, such as a big guard S. Livingston posting T. Lue, to shoot a hook, if so how? I've tried holding down the right analog and in the delay before the player straightens up press the shoot button but he just turns around and shoots. Any help would be much appreciated.

try being closer to basket or hold backdown longer or press shoot button quicker.
