You select a player from your roster to "focus" on and select which area(s) you would like to focus on and the length of time you want the trainer to focus on that player/area(s)
I've found focussing on 1 player for 4 weeks will generally get you 2 session results for that player which cover multiple ratings, training on a player for 1 week doesnt always get you a result for that player.
The trainer will also train other players on the roster at random, so my advise is to focus on 1 player for 4 weeks at a time to get maximum results.
The change was bought in to stop people stacking training to 1 player and make it more difficult to "make" superstars...
