Some Serious Problems With NBA Live 06

Tue Sep 27, 2005 4:25 pm

In playing I've found the following:

Players constantly throw up shots that go behind the backboard out of bounds.

When a player is a highflyer or inside scorer, or maybe even with everyone, once they decide to go to the basket there's no stopping them. I've seen Wade push a center and a PF from the free throw line to the basket and then dunk over both of them.

Stealing isn't new, it's just back to what it was in 2003. Watch a CPU v CPU game and you'll see constant steals.

Lesser problems but still there.

Why is there no scorer, but only inside or outside scorers? MJ was a scorer, period. When a guy is an inside scorer, he tends to take fewer outside shots and vice versa.

Teams still don't go to their prime players. In playing Miami Shaq had 5 shots in an entire game. The CPU rarely posted Shaq.

Agree'd, they'll start a Live 07 wishlist soon, so dont forget that stuff...

The out of bound off the backboard is worse this year than last year due to extra "double clutch" layups and adjusted shots, this really needs to be looked at....

Stealing i dont have a big problem with....

"Scorer" will be effectively an option when you can swap superstar abilities mid-game and you have a player good enough to be inside scorer/outside scorer...

MJ of the 90's was an outside scorer mostly who slashed to the basket a fair bit, he predominately took jumpers from beyond 14-15 feet though.

I agree re: MJ. But even in the 90's MJ had some amazing moves to the basket. He even displayed amazing moves during his final comeback with the Wizards. Even diminshed because of knee problems, he could slash down low and flick up amazing shots.

The best success I had re: that was with Kobe as an 'outside scorer' and calling some highflyer SG or scoring SG plays for him. He would mostly shoot from outside but then go for the occassional dunk and some pretty nice layups.

The behind the backboard out of bounds is really bad. The driving players being unstoppable is really bad. Things like that should not remain in a released game.

im sure jordan would have been more overrated then joe johnson...

Tue Sep 27, 2005 7:17 pm

Jordan was an inside scorer and outside scorer. So really you'd have to pick between the 2.

Steals- not a prob when you tone down the sliders.

Overall u get used to things so it's not that bad.

Sry about Off topic and little bit illegal but does someone know where i can download crack for nba live 06  . THX

Tue Sep 27, 2005 9:20 pm

way off topic. create a new thread for it. then the mods can lock it because it's clearly against the rules. then everybody's happy, except for you, cause you had to disobey the NLSC rules because you lacked the intelligence to type "NBA Live 06 crack" into Google.

?????

I found a problem, but its more of a glitch....
Everytime I do a self alley oop..the one where they flick it up under their arm and dunk it, they come off the ring really quickly and weirdly....its kinda hard to explain.
It does it everytime i do that dunk (its a SUPERSTAR dunk)...it even does it in practices and all!

Tue Sep 27, 2005 11:27 pm

yeah, they like "bounce" off the ring

Tue Sep 27, 2005 11:37 pm

ignatu, Most of your issues can be adjusted with sliders my friend..take the time and patience to work with it. The throwing up shots behind the backboard thing is definitly an issue though.

Yes exactly! How dodgy is it!?!?! :x

Mate, dont put up with that!

Theyve been pumping this stuff out for 7-8 years now you'd think they would have fixed the problems encountered before, not made them worse.

Not buying it, giving up Live 05, going back to 04 if anything - in that game there was no problem with a pg using 'the force' to push a yao & amare doubleteam under the basket from way out. There were no post shots from players like Yao which not only missed when the graphics would suggest the player was basically IN the basket - but go over the freaking backboard!
The default camera was good and made it possible to see what you needed to see, I cant see what the hell is happening down low, I cant tell if the jumper is open or not because its all a big mush down there.
Players would actually run the lanes on a fast break, instead of - say a SF who dosent shoot long, standing around outside the arc, while the only defender back manages to block your shot from the other side of the court by telekinetically slowing down your player.

And whats with the guards running straight into you all the time and bouncing you backwards, they do it over and over man. Sometime they do it mid range and bury a jumper because they got half a second by ramming persistently into your guarding player. Ive never seen that happen in a game for real, if it did the player would be either fouled out soon or would get sandwiched between big guys at the other end accidentally...

I can steal with my eyes closed, and the pad under my toes. I can get point after point after point by stealing from the pointguard as he brings the ball up. The are about 2 point guards I cannot do this well from (one is Nash) but the rest need balancing because that dosent happen too often in the NBA either.
You can obviously Change sliders and recorrect this with some playing about....but why the hell do I need to do this? Did they not playtest the game before releasing? Were they spending all their time making sure that neat dunk in the dunk competition looks awesome dude, yknow, because "Every one just wants to see dunks, the kids thats what they want dunk this, dunks that - theyll just pick shaq all the time anyway so stuff some stuffs in and give shaq 99 FG because he can shoot cant he? It'll sell loads - Im off to play golf"

Fact---last year was generally recognised as a massive international boom in overseas players to the NBA...
Voices -> all american = stupid..... I do not want to hear Zydrunus Ilgauskis say 'My bad dawwwg' when he lobs his 3 inch unguarded post shot over the backboard, through the stands, out of the stadium and into central Cleveland. If I did, id play NBA jam and i'd probably have teh hlaf-way 1ine dunk cheet on.

The bottom line seems to be with this series that the graphics get better every year so they can parade their screenies and vids around to hype the game....comon practice - but the gamplay never really improves much despite great and obvious feedback from the community - it still looks like its is made by people who have never grasped basketball, only have seen lots of footage of it and were given a pile of stats to turn into a game.

Still, I hope the games improve further into the series...
Peace

That's what I've thought for many years now. I wish they have more athletic geeks - former basketball players in high school and college, but also are computer programmers and engineers, so they can literally understand how the game is played. Watching games will only take you so far, but when you actually experience the game, that's when you understand the game.

From the comments I've seen in the bugs section, and from here, I'm seriously contemplating not buying the game. I still would like to try it out, though, as there are some improvements - but if they're not good enough, then I'm not wasting my money anymore. I'm not impressed with the additional arcadish style (Live 2003) that they're bringing back, but if gameplay has improved, then I'll consider a balance of pros and cons. The behind the backboard shot has been one of my biggest pet peeves from last year and to hear that it's worse does not make me a happy camper.
