Decline in Graphics.....Absolutely Unacceptable.

Sat Sep 24, 2005 2:47 pm

I saw the topic about how their is a distinct decline in the graphical quality that is in the final version of the game. I'm furious about this. It is incredibly disloyal of EA to feed us all images of what Live 06 is supposed to look like, and then have it look completely different in the actual final version of the game. I actaully think that the decline is only for the PC version, because in the videos I've seen for the console versions, the jerseys all look the same as they did when pictures first started popping up. Why would they do something like this to their loyal fanbase? If this is actaully the case, it means they have been lying to us the entire time. I remember seeing screens of the PC version of live and it looked exact like the consoles (specifically, the jersey and player textures). Now that I have seen video footage from someone he actually has a version of the game on PC, it looks a lot worse than what I was presented with intially. If the PC version isn't going to look as good as the consoles, don't lie to us, just show us what its really going to look like. Whats the point of all the deception EA, I mean this is just ridiculous.

Andrew, can you provide any insight as to how the final version of the game that will be released in the U.S. differs from what some of the Aussies have showed us?

Sorry for the long post, but I am very frustrated.

Then don't play the game if you don't like the graphics, the graphics arent as important.. it's the game play

I said about a hundred times that EA ALWAYS shows us souped up versions of the actual graphics and that the in game graphics wouldn't look like that... of course people flamed me and said it was exactly how the ingame graphics looked  but the proof is there.

Yes, my best friend works for EA games, not sports, but Jae is correct.. it's a market, it's all about making money.

I dunno but ive always thought the graphics were aite in 05, the player models were minute in 05, camera angles will give u a better view....live's graphics are not as bad as u make it sound, u wanna see over-exaggerated buffed up players?--each one looking damn muscular like Ben Wallace, then play 2K..apparently its the graphics standard

if its unacceptable, dont accept it, what are u going to do? just dont play it

May be that fellow had a shitty graphics card. I believe some 1 w/ a better graphics card would have a better presenteation in terms of graphics. Let's wait for Andrew's review. He probably has one of the good graphics cards out there. We may then infer our judgements.

Yeah but decline in graphics, if not from ur PC, is totally unacceptable. I'm w/ u bro on that.

Nba 2k6 = better console game

live = way better pc game, lol only pc game but the graphics are better then 2k6 on xbox

The beta movies posted on operation sports on sept 21st actually showed a little improvment over what we were shown a month ago. I am particularly impressed by the new lighting effect. If you look one of the clode-up, for ex. during a player injury, you can see a detail of the body, muscles and so on...and it looks better than live 05. Everything looks more colorfull and that annoyng glove effect from 2005 it's gone.

I can't say more than that caz I don't have the game. Can someone who has it tell us more about raphi improvements?

Well, I for one think graphics and presentation is absolutely linked to gameplay. If you have stick figures skating in a ring, that wouldn't be good gameplay no matter how realistic the stats come out to be. That is ofcourse an exaggeration, but point served. For me, its always Gameplay and Graphics, althought gameplay slightly ahead. But by all means, when I look at a game, and it is visually unpleasant, I disregard it. Now tell me, would you go up to an unattractive women and start getting to know her?

Ide have to say its all about the PC you run the game on EA would run it on a top of the line pc so thay could show off how good it can look... it happens every year with all games they upgrade the games so much the pc that you had last year just wont run the games this year

that's not the case. I'm runing it max detail and the game doesn't exhibit the graphics that were and are still being previewed as you can see from the screenshots in my other thread.

It's not really a big deal though. If you want to buy a game for graphics wait for the next gen release.

I would neither call this a decline or absolutley unacceptable.

From the screenies I've seen the only difference is the jersey texture, is there anything else?

IF it's only the texture of the jersey, I think your making a mountain out of a mole hill. I never like the one they had in the previews anyways, guys here make way better textures for jerseys and I was going to replace it anyways.

IF there more then that, please share cuzz I haven't seen it yet.

EH?

I like the graphics, but can you post a pic of these "bad Graphics?"

Sun Sep 25, 2005 4:39 am

The pictures preview u see b4 the game is even made or even finish good, they render those pics with very expensive video cards and graphic programs, anyone can do that, there was an article on this on tomshardware a while back, dont be misled by the graphics you see in the pics which will look totally different in he end product.

It's pretty obvious, since the whole thing is pretty much ported from consoles, they wouldn't be able to take it a step further.

I don't agree. 2k's graphic is 2 steps forward even on current consoles

None whatsoever. The one that was released early in Australia is the final version.

I actually consider NBA Live 06's graphics to be both better than NBA Live 2005 and the early screenshots, but that could be just me. I really prefer this year's lighting effects compared to last year's glow.

I just got the game today as well, played at my friend's place with a 6600GT card..it looked okay...got home and tried it on my 6800GT with antialitasing filter on 2x.....the game looked GREAT!! i agree with andrew that the lighting is SICK this year!! just need some slider change and the game will keep me happy until next year this time hehe

Ah well, I guess EA Canada haven't figured out how to utilize the maximum power of consoles, then.
