Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

the freestyle superstar "shooters" i thought were a bit disappointing. cant we already fake a pass then shoot? and what is the use of the holding the followthrough, sure it might be cool, but i hope im not alone in thinking that a more useful shot could have been added.

Holding the followthrough gets you on ESPN play of the day.
EA spends a lot of time on the look and sound, the flash and the dazzle. On one hand that's time that could be spent on AI and concrete features such as three team trades. On the other hand, flash and dazzle sells games. Without sales, there'd be no game to play.

i know they need that stuff to sell, i just expected more from the shooters, though this play of the day thing is news to me.

How can we fake a pass then shoot today? Anyways, I think that is a rather nice shot; it gives you at least an open look which is great if you're being guarded by someone like Bowen.
As for the follow-through, I'm not sure if there's any noticeable difference from that one and the set shot one, but I'm sure it looks purdy...
I think they did a good job on them, considering I can't come up with a better one myself. The only one I could see would be one to look for a foul on the shot.

faking a pass was possible in 2004, not anymore in 2005.

ESPN Play of the day? Wtf are you talking about? Maybe in real life, we're talking about NBA Live 2006.

Really when I watched that video I thought that was a stupid way of adding superstar moves, because other players could think that is a freestyle move, made with the right analog stick, so they wont pay attention to it and that means that is not a trick, only an unuseful move. I don't like shooters superstars.

Doesn't the follow through increase the chances of hitting the shot? Thought I had read that somewhere...
Fri Sep 02, 2005 11:07 am
I believe that's true. I would assume using Shooters Freestyle would be more effective than the regular freestyle and shoot button...besides, there's not really as many "moves" when it comes to shooting. It wouldn't exactly be realistic if we could force players to turn their backs to the basket and perform a two handed fling a la Denver Nuggets' mascot Rocky's blind halfcourt shot routine.

i know, i thought thought we'd get more options in terms of quick releases or more off balance then a normal shot would offer. but if holding the followthrough does in fact increase the chance of making it, then i take it all back, because anything that can make a shooter more effective is definately worth while.
Fri Sep 02, 2005 3:12 pm
The thing is...is that a regular shot is quicker...you would do that follow thing if no man is jumping up to contest you or w/e. A set shot is when you're completely open.
Fri Sep 02, 2005 3:54 pm
Well, it is pretty difficult to implement a shooter superstar... I mean... what do powers do you give him? If you make him have like a 95% shooting percentage, he'll be to powerful in the game, on the other hand, you'd have to differentiate him from normal guys... so I guess this is the best you can do...

WTF is follow through ?

As a Lithuanian you should know everything there is to know about basket ball... I certainly hope that was a joke.
If it wasn't, the follow through is the move that you make with your hands after the ball has left your hands. The shot should always be done with a single smooth move... Your hands make the shooting move and even though the ball leaves your hands during that motion, you should "follow through" with the movement of your arms and hands... To make it a smooth one. If you don't do the follow through, there's a chance that the you will rush the shot and or start on the next move with your hands before the ball leaves your hands and thus making you miss more...
You've seen footage of guys shooting and hanging their hands in the air and pointing at the basket! That's basically the "follow through"...
As a shooter I know it's value and it should never be overlooked.

Just to add to that, "follow through" isn't a term that's restricted only to basketball. It's a continued motion (generally of the hand) that is supposed to result in a more fluid and controlled action, be it a jumpshot, golf swing or whatever.

Oh..
It is one of first aspect, what coaches trains about shooting in basketball schools there in Lithuania. I sure everywhere it's the same..
I'm shooter personaly, but i don't use this thing..

Unless i'm at free throw line (i;m very good (almost superb) FF shooter too...
