The Amount of Improvement between each NBA Live...

Postby VlaDiv on Fri Sep 02, 2005 12:02 am

I think we are disappointed by the videos because the whole setup looks the same mostly. On the other hand, they are building upon last year's game. It's not a bad foundaiton to build on. And with xbox 360 coming, they went for a slight upgrade rather than a rebuild.

Yes, NBA superstar mode would have been nice like in madden, but it's not there. The coaching thing will add some depth, but it's a small change for a whole year of waiting for a new live.

I see it this way

95-98 were just early games. 99 had some transitional things like a multi-year mode with no rookies/fa,etc.

Live 00 set the bar for the modern live with first draft/FA/retiring dynasty.
Live 01 continued on 00's route as a similar PC sim.

Live 02 was different. with xbox/gamecube out, it had a thin but sleek look and a 10 year dynasty.
Live 03 built on 02 with freestyle. Very similar change to 05/06 games.

live 04 was great and mostly new. Though "cartoonish" I enjoyed the cyberfaces the most.

Live 05 was also quite new in its calendar look and rookie scouting.
06 just slightly builds on this with superstar skills.

What do you think?

For the PC live 02 (or maybe it was 01) was the biggest drop because it changed from PC menus and controls to console menus on the PC.

Probably NBA Live 2003 to NBA Live 2004, since NBA Live 2003 was taking the series in a totally new and unwanted direction and NBA Live 2004 steered it back towards its simulation roots.
