Setting The Bar for a Superstar?

Postby VlaDiv on Thu Jul 28, 2005 2:03 am

I saw Luke Ridnour officialy a playmaker and Korver will be a shooter. These guys are not superstars, really? They are starters/role players with a specialty really. Does that mean....
Dampier or Shawn Bradley an Inside stopper? Jon Barry a shooter? Divac a playmaker/inside scorer? Mutombo an inside stopper in 06? Payton still a playmaker/outside stopper? Howard Eisley a playmaker, ostertag a stopper? Clearly those guys are not superstars but they do have some specialties, I'm just wondering if they will limit to big stars. I like the idea of picking what you will use in each guy before the game, but for every otehr guy?

You have to respect Krover as a 3pt shooter. He was pretty good in the all star game too. I am sure about Luke, since I dont follow the Seattle.
NBA Live 2003 is the best game ever made.

well at first i thought the same, but now i decided to have a more positive attitude towards it... probably the ratings will still affect how effective the superstar thingie will be, so basically nash and ridnour would be able to do the same moves but because of their ratings nash should have the most chances of taking advantage from them.

what scares me most on this subject is the defensive part of it. there were some moves in live 2005 that were practically unstoppable on every level (both done by the player or the CPU) and even sliders could not avoid it, so the CPU had to cheat to prevent it. i just hope the CPU doesn't go rampage on superstar level like last year and start seeing Yao running the court at light speed to block your dunk after you got by the defender. in that case, for example, i think they should find a way where getting by defenders is not that easy but not imposible either, and not fixing it with lightning fast centers coming from nowhere to block your shot.

Divac a playmaker/inside scorer?

I wouldn't worry about that.......he wont be in the game, he's retired.

He said that report was premature. He may be on the IR or something with the summer deadline for rosters... and he'd have to make the Euro team.

But with his 86 pass rating in 05, he was highest rated big man passer.

Anyway, when are they going to talk DYNASTY to us? New coaches, is that all?

I don't really want Divac going for 20/10 in my games.

I think superstars is just the catchy title they came up with, but in reality it has to do with specialtys.

As long as ratings still determine how effective players can be with their specialised moves and abilities, it should remain realistic. But I too was under the impression only the top players and a few very good ones would be able to utilise Freestyle Superstars.

Instead of making superstars special...they're going to do the opposite. Make everyone into superstars. Jeesh...when will EA learn..

Technically even non-super stars have specialized skills. Look at Brevin Knight, he's by no means a superstar in the NBA, but last year he had a very good assist to turnover ratio and was getting a ton of steals.

Adonal Foyle will never be a superstar, but he's a great shot blocker. Like I said, superstars is just the catchy term for the new feature, but in reality its adding specialtys that the players ratings control.

why did they say only STAR players on teams will have these abilities ... Luke Ridnour is nothing special!! i hope we have the option to either give ANYONE these abilities (like if they are underrated in the game like some people are and in real life maybe they are a high flying dunker) or teach anyone enough to have the abilites like underrated NBA players

I completely agree, it's not a bad idea that players with some specialised skills should be able to utilise certain special moves. I was just under the impression it would be restricted to the superstars and second-tier players in the game, since that's what the early previews were suggesting.

i think superstars ab illities will be given to a player if any of his skills are high..
\example i crete a player with 99 passing and 0 on the rest, this player will be like 20 overall but he could be a playmaker because of his passing skills... thats why i dont think many players will be superstars

So its just like players with high 3fg ratings having that 3pt icon, etc right?

So its just icons all over again but now having an icon means you can do specialized moves for those players.

The ironic thing is it doesn't help the actual superstars that much because they are usually multitalented and will be limited. LeBron is the top quality playmaker, scorer, highflyer and it should be that way, but he is going to get limited.

I hope they have different ratings for style and efficiency for each skill. Take Brevin Knight and Rafer Alston for example. Brevin Knight should have a higher passing rating and is a better playmaker but that doesn't mean he can pull off no look passes better than Alston.

Yea. I think NBA Live 07 will do all that because they can put more information inside the CD/DVD with the next - gen consoles.
