Player attribute/ratings question

Folks, I just signed up to the site so forgive me if I am asking a worn out question. But here it goes:
A couple of friends and I are playing a season of Live 06 as ourselves on the same team. We have created our own men and have agreed that we can be no higher than an 87 overall. The issue is I am not sure which attributes I should give more points to than others. I don't know what is the benefits of each. I assume basic definitions for the easier ones like 3pt but I still would like it if someone could give me the definitions of each rating and how it affects the game.
My created man is 6'8 235 and a SF. I am going for an athletic wing man who's ratings lean toward offense. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.
***By the way. We are playing on Playstation 2 and we have not installed any patches or any downloads. This is a very basic straight out of the box deal.
