Shooting from 3

Hi, I'm just new here. I have bought NBA 06 few months ago and it was my first NBA Live series purchase. I found the game very nice. but I have one major problem. Whenever i turn the shot control from CPU to uman, i never manage to score from 3 regardless how well i try to time it, or how many times i try to change the release of the ball. Should i use my direction stick with it? How long should I keep the shoot button pressed for a shot from the line? Any further advice to give me? Pls help cos its getting very frustrating to see Michael Jordan or any other All satr Champion unable to score from 3 for 20 times in a row during the practice......

Welcome to the Forum. 
When shooting a jumpshot it's best to release the ball at the top of your jump. In the past I've sometimes found that holding down turbo yields better results though at times that appears to be purely psychological.
