Do Height and Weight affect gameplay?

Fri Mar 24, 2006 5:20 am

Does Height and Weight affect gameplay or is it just how the players look?

For example, if a C is 300lbs with 70 STR and another C is 230lbs with 90 STR, which would be better for post ups?

Also, if a player is 7'0" with 70 DREB and 70 BLK and another player is 6'8" with 90 DREB and 90 BLK, which is better for rebounding and blocking?

1. 300 lbs Center
2. In the 2nd quaestion its impossible, taller players always have higher ratings in rebounding and blocking!

That's not true. Ben Wallace is not as tall as many centers. If Ben Wallace and another player that was 7'0" had the same ratings, would the other player be better at rebounding and shot blocking?

why not create them to test it out.

in the end you probably would still not get a definite answer

They do have some significance, but the CPU would seem to be able to take advantage of size more often.

In live, it also depends very much on the jumping rating. Taller players, especially centers have an average to low jumping rating. That is why the more athletic guys like Wallace are usually the better blockers and rebounders. But if a 7'3 guy had the exact same ratings as Big Ben, I would expect him to be a better blocker because of his length. I'm not sure about rebounds, though. I collect the most boards with guys like Wallace, Brand and Haslem, who are all around 6'8 - 6'9.

Oh, and Kurt Thomas! He is a rebounding beast!

It's more of jumping for rebounding and blocking...not the height unless its a 5'3 to a 7'0

in my cavs dynasty i used martynas andriuskevicius and he was great on the rebound. i always used those height problams in ea's nba games, the weight thing is less important in ea's nba games.
by the way, drew gooden was my best rebounder despite his height.

So jumping is even more of a factor than the BLK and rebound ratings?

Sat Mar 25, 2006 4:28 pm

Kinda..

Jump determines how high a player can jump but its no use using him to jump to grab rebounds if his rebounding is low

Sun Mar 26, 2006 2:09 am

Actually no...a player with 65 jumping and 60 for def and off reb rebounds more in a game then a 50 jumping and 70 for def reb and off reb..

Given that, in every Live game I've played so far, little guards can push centers around, I'd venture to say that the handling of weight is awful in EA's games. Absolutely awful. So annoying... everytime I see Chauncey Billups move Shaq, I want to pound the programmers.
