Contesting shots

Does putting your hands up (right analog stick up) contest the shot? Or do you have to attempt to block the shot, using the block button.

think about it in real life
if you take a jump shot and your defender just stands there basically is that going to affect your shot?

IF they put their hands up then yeah it'll affect your shot a little. It won't have the same affect as jumping but it will lower your opponent's field goal percentage.

well not really because its a jump shot
unless they put their hand in your face your fine
but i doubt this game adds the whole hand in face

Well, in the real world it does affect some players a tad just knowing they're there but yeah, I highly doubt it affects it in Live 06.
