4:3 format on widescreen LCD TV?

Wed Feb 22, 2006 7:25 am

I'm very close to buying a widescreen LCD TV to double as a PC monitor. Will I be able to play live 06 for PC in a standard 4:3 resolution with the black bars on each side? I see that playing live in a widescreen resoultion is near impossible, and having the 4:3 format seems like a viable option. Thanks.

As far as I know, the game doesn't support wide-screen at all, and it just stretches it out to the sides when you have a wide-screen monitor... Might be wrong tho.

Absolutely correct. I have a widescreen monitor, but its not a tv. The picture is stretched when viewing full screen. As long as your monitor or video card has an option for 4:3 or "aspect" like I do, then you'll be fine.

So i just picked up the Samsung LNR238W, which is a 23" widescreen LCD TV (see here: http://reviews.cnet.com/Samsung_LN_R238 ... ml?tag=sub ).

I have had little success running live 06 (for PC) on it so far. It boots into the game's main screen, but when i go to play an actual game, the screen goes black and i get an error on the TV saying "not supported mode". I have done 2 things to try to fix this:

1) I left the resolution in windows as widescreen but changed the TV aspect ratio to 4:3. That didn't help.

2) I changed the resolution in windows to 1024x768 and changed the aspect ratio of the TV to 4:3. That didn't help either.

I have also heard people saying that they can play live on their widescreens, and the image is just stretched out. I'd even go for that right now, given it's better than nto being able to play at all. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Or better yet, anyone have this TV and been successful running live 06 on it? Oh and I have an ATI X700 Pro video card. Thanks!

download a program called powerstrip off of download.com

once that is loaded and active, through that program set the resolution to the setting you play nba live in.

go to advanced options and move/adjust the settings to be as close to the aspect ratio you want (you do this manually like you would adjusting a monitor, except with this program).

set your res back to your regular pc setup.

load nba live and make sure it's displaying the res you calibrated in powerstrip.

play a game and in the game the screen should look how you set it to.
