What can I do to make this game run faster?

It's slow during gameplay, menus, loading, etc. Any processes that I should shut off? Settings to change? ANYTHING? This game used to run alright...maybe I should just do a total system defrag or something...

turn all details to minimum, shut down antivirus and all other running programs while playing. defragging won't help. format might.
