Guys, please help.. big problem on cheap layups..

Sat Nov 12, 2005 6:59 pm

we have this tournament, and we play competitive nbalive games at home with friends.. then we found this.. did you notice that reverse layups right under the basket almost always hits?! even with block settings set to 100 and using inside stoppers we can not stop that kind of layup.

here's another. no crossover, no freestyle whatsoever, they just WALK bumping here and there forcing oneself to go under the basket. i dont know if youve tried this before, but walking past defenders really works. the defenders may bump you, but not much (not much bumping this year), you can still go on and force the issue. occassionally they end up with a 24 section violation but not much.

so my friends now use this cheap trick. go under the basket at almost every possession and convert from there using the reverse layup. even if it misses, the player under the basket can easily tip it in.

ive tried using double teams to stop the walk (but they just kick it out to the open man), using CPU to defend them, turning the block sliders to 100 to stop the layup, even turning layup sliders way down, but nothing worked. the player can just walk into that area and do the reverse layup, defenders will be pushed out of the way. you know how hard it is to block a shot this year.

i could do that to them too, almost at will also, but im not that type that wants to wins games just for the sake of winning. you could do this in your dynasty too. sad to say, this makes the game so much annoying.. the game was so much enjoyable before we discovered that..

anyone, please try to find a solution because i think im quitting our tournament if this continues.

You could try reducing the layup percentage slider, though that would reduce the likelihood of easy, regular layups going in as well. I'd find some other strategy to exploit against your friends (even if it doesn't encourage them to stop exploiting the game it'll ensure you stay in the game) or if they insist on using cheap strategies and you're not having fun, don't play against them. Not much else I can suggest apart from that.

they always use cheap strategies when playing, but in previous live versions, i'd always find ways to beat them, even at their own games (sorry for the bragging).. i could use the same strategy to beat them, but im not having fun.. im a sim guy.. this one gives me headaches because i havent found a solution yet.. the layups are ok if it weren't for the walking thing..

i tried the layup sliders, but as you said, the regular layups were way down also. anyway, thanks for the help! :D i really appreciate it. maybe it's just a flaw in ea's game this year. i think i'll just play my own dynasty season then..

by the way, great rosters andrew, i haven't thanked you before for the rosters you're putting up. we always use your roster patches. (Y) (Y) (Y)

you could throw a book in your "friends" face until he stops abusing the games weakpoints (Y)

You could probably change that by upping the on-the-ball defense slider, but the side effect would be those unrealistic "hit by a running back" physics on other plays.

As someone else said, lowering the lay-up slider might help. You might also turn the dunk/lay-up slider all the way to the dunk side.

Or you could just make people agree not to do it when you play. We set rules for our Madden tourneys when we find a bug. If your friends are reasonable, that should work.

Good luck.
