Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

I've been reading a lot a negative blabber on the forums. I think it's mostly gamers that approach this game in the wrong perspective.
I've been playing nba live since 95 and over the years have seen the game's ups and downs. Every year had their major bugs. Issues with (offensive) rebounding, lack of midrange shots, poor AI, non-existent fast breaks, popular features were taken out (like create-a-team), customizing the game got a lot harder (anybody remember when we we're able to insert a musicpatch to play during the game, and i could go on and on for ages.
However, bringing things in perspective, Nba live has been making great strides. The gameplay has been getting more diverse and lifelike. Just put some thought into this: what would you want in a game that simulates NBA play?
You want to be able to play like your team and your superstars, you want to play as if it were a basketball game, you want the excitement of the arena, you want the movements of the players, you want the highlightreel plays. This year's Live makes this possible for the first time.
I just played a game using the 80's Allstars against the 90's Allstars. I had Kareem throwing in lifelike hookshots, Magic throwing no-look passes to Worthy completing a showtime fastbreak, Bird being slow as hell but firing down treys and Dr J making reverse dunks. The most striking thing was, I could let them play like there reallife counterparts. There is no other game that makes this possible. Finally we get to play them like they would in real life. It boggles my mind that people are actually complaining.
I dont think there are any major issues in this year's version, which is quite unique for any game. People that gripe about it being to easy, superstar moves being too effective and too easy to exploit? Well why dont you tone down the sliders and play like a real team would. And don't complain that you cant stop all the superstar moves the AI uses, thats the whole idea: how often did Kareem get his hookshot blocked? How often did Shaq not win a lostpost situation with just one or two defenders? Exactly. It's not arcade at all. The people complaining they can score with Dirk or whoever every single time: you must be the same time of player that reads the walkthrough of an adventure game, plays on godmode during Quake, unlocks the fastest car in a racing game and creates diversions during a monopoly game to rob your brother of some cash. And when you finished you said it was too easy. Well duh.
In other words, what I'm trying to say is: please show some respect to what this game is about and put some thought into what you are saying before you pass this game off as being easy or unrealistic, posting ridiculous messages in CAPS. Lets keep this forum for real discussion. We are spoiled with the deep gameplay we get, the amount of moves and realism is staggering compared to any previous version or any other series.
I'm off to shoot some more backstep fadeaways with finley, poor in some more raindrop floaters with Parker, bank in some perimiter shots off the glass with Duncan, dunk the ball off a bounce with Francis.

Are you an EA advertising bot who just happened to make 79 other posts in the process?

No, just got brainwashed somewhere during the intro.
BTW, Jae you must be Roy?

Roy? Who's Roy?

Sure, some good points.
But if you were coach of a basketball team and your power forward was scoring on every play, hitting 90% of his shots, would you tell the team to go to someone else so the game would be more fun and realistic?
What I'd like to see is the CPU forcing other players than the star to take shots (although I MIGHT be getting there after some radical slider changes).

NBA Live 06 is very fun to play. But it is the farthest thing from a simulation to date.................EA has focused more on the Arcade Aspect in 06, not a bad thing for some, but this game is true Arcade.

plz define SIMLATION and arcade, 2K fans dont even know wat Simulation means...Live presents the user 2 options: Arcade and Simulation, why do u think Live is always outselling 2K, its because most users like to make their star player drop 1000000pts after which they complain the game is too easy, for sim players like myself, we play a team game and so long EA gives us more control over every little move, ima keep buying Live, im having trouble this year wit teh great defense the AI shows, im sure a lot of ppl think this year's game is easy because they never let go of the L button, plz if u gonna make ur star player attempt 50shots per game then dont complain about live being arcade,if TMac attempted 50 shots per game in real life, wouldnt he be averaging crazy unbelieveable points??

I agree a lot of it is in the approach. NBA Live 06 - and indeed, most of the games in the series aside from NBA Live 2003 - are only as realistic as the user allows them to be. If all you do is dunk, you can't really complain that there's too many dunks. If you run-and-gun and don't play much D, scores are always going to be higher.
Sliders make it a lot easier to achieve realism without much effort, and that's perhaps the main difference between the recent games and the older game in the series. By changing the frequencies and likelihood of high shooting percentages, we are usually forced to use more strategy - and play a bit more realistically - rather than using cheesy moves over and over.
That said, there are issues with the new game which I'll discuss in my review (coming this weekend, I'm sure of it

) but some of those issues are slider related. I think part of the problem is the fact we're used to playing NBA Live 2005 with a lot of slider tweaks, so many of us have probably forgotten how the game felt out of the box.

Well said. What I did was I evened up the sliders so basically both human and cpu have the same values (except for the on ball physical defense and fake out setting which I didn't change) and that's it, I do manage to play a good game of sim basketball.
I'm working on the defensive concept of the game. I'm still getting the feel of things but I managed to limit the Suns to 18 points in the 1st qtr. in a 12 mins per qtr. game. I was playing as the Spurs by the way and was able to score 24 points. (Updated rosters circa Sept 29.) It really depends on the way you play and your attention to detail.

It's quite weird how factually wrong you end up being everytime you post, but still.
No matter what game, sliders are basically everything if you want it to be "realistic".

I wish they had PC version for the 2k series every year....
FOr 2007 ea should reviews all graphics in game, for menus , rosters...In game stats are pathetic ...........
