player's improvements

Sun Aug 28, 2005 5:28 am

here is my problem with nba live 05. i had varejao and juan dixon on my team for 2 years. dixon was my starter at the point guard position. and varejao on my bench as the 6th man. in the first year, varejao was 58 and dixon was 59. at the beginning of my 3rd season, dixon was 56 and varejao still 58.

when i was just looking at teams roster, - 2 years after the trade - i saw varejao rating at 71. i was shocked. it was the same varejao the one from brazil. my point is while i had him for 2 years, he did not improve a bit but when he was on another team for 2 years, he improved by from 58 to 71 and thats 13.

i hope that for nba live 06, ea should do something that if a player gets minutes and starts and with training, he should improve. jus like real life in nba. maybe one year a player is not starting and doesn't get minutes but the next year he gets minutes and his stats are way up. this should be in nba live 06. for example, after a starting a player and training him, he should improve from like overal of 60 to 70 in one year, if he had a very good year.

whats you thought on this?

Well, I think that just like in reality, not every player you "develop" should turn out to be a star or whatever. Where's the fun if it works every time with every player?

I think if you're lucky, you can develop Varejao and make him improve, and if you're not lucky, he does not improve. What's so wrong about that? That's just how it is in the NBA as well.

but why when i try to develope him he didn't improve but when he when elsewhere he improved a lot. i played him between 25 - 30 minutes.

Yeah, I see, but what I meant is that not every player should improve only because you play him a lot. This is just not how it works in reality as well.

You gotta get lucky for a player to improve, it shouldn't happen every time. So maybe the other team where Varejao did improve got lucky, whereas you didn't. You'll just have to try and develop other players until you find a diamnod in the rough. Isn't that how it's supposed to be?

Or maybe when you start a new dynasty you'll have more luck with Varejao this time around, who knows.

Yea, Dirkules made a good point there. (y)

Also, this might sound stupid, but did you ever edit him during those two years? Some times when you play with a player from the start you need to get the game to 'redo' his overall rating. The overall rating is a product of his individual ratings, and sometimes when using a roster patch, the overall rating won't be correct, so when you edit him (or trade him.. aha!), the game will re-calculate his overall value.
What I'm getting at is that he always was a circa 65-70 rated player when he was with you, just that you didn’t think he was because the overall rating hadn't been re-calculated.
That's not very likely at all though, but there's a 0,01% chance

yeah, i think you are right about that "the overall rating hadn't been re-calculated".
i hope i get luckierwith these kinda things in nba live 06!
