Gasol is mad overrated

Mon Aug 22, 2005 1:31 am

Now we wait for the breathtaking moment when Tony Parker is revealed to be France's coverboy.

Mon Aug 22, 2005 1:32 am

I told you people it's gonna be Gasol. The other Spanish players aren't established NBA players yet

Mon Aug 22, 2005 1:33 am

Ehm, nevermind, just saw the other thread, surprise surprise.

What do you mean there's no established nba players that are spanish besides gasol, he might not be from Spain but he's still spanish they should've had Mr. Ginobili. (Y)

Mon Aug 22, 2005 1:52 am

How is Ginobili Spanish?

Mon Aug 22, 2005 1:58 am

I think he thinks that Spanish speakers are considered Spanish, therefore all of South America consists of Spaniards.

:P Hah!

Ginobili is from Argentina? They don't even have PS2's there. (jk)

Mon Aug 22, 2005 3:57 am

ginobili is spanish....spanish speaking countries are all of spanish descendance. you can argue that he used the wrong term because we more widely refer to ourselves by the term hispanic. but it is basically the same shit cuz hispanic refers to someone decending from hispanola which is spain. ginobili is from argentina which makes him of spanish decent.
i think EA is better off marketing a player from that specific country such as pau gasol. he may not be the best player and i agree hes a little overrated but the people there can identify with him more.
either way video games are not half as big there as they are here. i just came back from spain , greece, italy, and london this summer and in all of those places over a period of 1 month i saw a total of maybe 5 or less video game stores.

Mon Aug 22, 2005 4:00 am

Uh, there's lots of Spanish descendants in the Phillipines, does that make them Spanish? Since the game is being released in Spain, it'd be more appropriate for somebody who was born in native Spain, rather than in Argentina with Spanish descendants, but are not considered "Spanish."

"I'm Spanish."
"Oh, so you're from Spain?"
"No. Argentina."
"Oh."

Mon Aug 22, 2005 4:25 am

ginobili is from argentina which makes him of spanish decent.

So what? Most Americans are of British descent but that doesn't make them British. I'm of Italian descent but that doesn't mean I'm Italian.

Mon Aug 22, 2005 4:40 am

oh man u people love to assume shit without reading...did i say ginobili is spanish? i said he is of spanish descent...i was trying to explain what the other dude meant when he said ginobili is spanish.
he is NOT spanish, it is a common misconception to use that word when describing people of south america and the carribean and certain other spanish speaking countries. i am dominican and i refer to myself as a hispanic which is the correct term. ginobili is hispanic. puerto ricans are hispanics. argentinians are hispanics. venezuelans are hispanics and etc. that is why i said that they are better off marketing a player that actually is from spain such as pau gasol. in spain that misconception does not exist and they do not refer to other spanish speaking countries as "spanish."

Mon Aug 22, 2005 4:49 am

... but if he's of Spanish descent, that doesn't explain why an Argentinian would appear on the cover of a Spanish game when they have Spanish players from Spain who are almost as good?

Mon Aug 22, 2005 5:03 am

I think there should be just one cover...the dwayne wade cover...becose the others like gasol and parker just dont deserve to be on the cover!

Mon Aug 22, 2005 5:03 am

wtf...

OMG....i was quoting what the other guy said.... did u not see that i wrote ginobili is spanish i left a long pause then i started explaining what that meant

Mon Aug 22, 2005 5:23 am

OMG....i was quoting what the other guy said....

Well, there are the quote tags you know.... And since you always type..... With these wierd pauses in the middle of your sentences....... It gets...... really....... hard to tell....... What in gods name you are writing...........

Jae wrote:So what? Most Americans are of British descent but that doesn't make them British.

Wrong, i think only about 5% at the most are of British heratige.

Mon Aug 22, 2005 6:15 am

Replace British with European, either ways it's the same thing.

Mon Aug 22, 2005 6:21 am

ok the point here is that ginobili is not from spain and pau gasol would be a much better marketing option there. ginobili is hispanic HE IS NOT SPANISH. saying someone is spanish would be saying that he is from the country of spain. thats it now everyone stop arguing
