Excited! (Rave with Half Question)

Postby breems on Fri Dec 04, 2009 1:55 pm

Well this forum simply says talk about NBA Live 06...

I'm excited. I'm going tomorrow to buy the game. My original one for the GameCube broke about 2 years ago, and I hadn't really thought about playing it again until today when I got on here and read my old crappy dynasty stories. Most likely I'll pick it up for about 5 bucks at the local game store but for PS2 this time around. Oh and my half question - Is the game-play the same in PS2 as it is on the Game Cube? Smooth, arcade style? Does the PS2 version have anything different about it?

It should be basically identical, yes.

Andrew,

How have you managed to post 48,058 times and still keep from being a smart-a, no-bull-crap, admin?

Anyhow, thanks as always.

I'm not sure that it would be particularly interesting for anyone.

Well our wonderful small town game store didn't have 06 for PS2, but had 08 for 10 bucks so looks like I'll learn the ropes there.

Hate to say it, but you're probably in for a disappointment there with all of 08's issues. Still, if it's a more arcade-style of gameplay you're after it might be alright.

I was just coming back to post my first impression, but you nailed it for me. The game is absolutely terrible!!! I love 06 but 08 was simply pathetic. The only thing to mention that was different in game-play was the hot spots, which I don't like. The game also looks worse on PS2 than 06 does on my GameCube. Also so virtually no improvements in dynasty mode, and everything in the all-star mode seemed the same; even the dunks in the dunk competition. The computer team also has a lame style of play - pass it to the best player on the team and shoot. I played Lakers (Me) vs Celtics twice and each time Garnett scored over 50 points (5 minute quarters).

Thankfully, the game store still has 06 for GameCube, so I'll be getting it again at an even trade-in.

Edit: Just noticed NBA Live 06 received a 9 rating on IGN (rightfully so) while 08 recieved a 5.5. Should have checked that first lol.

I'd highly recommend that swap for any platform except Xbox 360. (Y)

Also going to attempt to buy 06 for the PC. Would love the opportunity to have updated rosters, patches, play online, and make dynasty threads with actual SS's hehe. Hopefully the game and a gamecube-type game-pad for the PC won't be out of my teenage-style budget.

I have 1.5 gigs of RAM, a 128MB GeForce 5200FX Video Card, and an AMD Sempron 3100+, 1.8 GHz processor.

Should 06 run smoothly for my PC? I have NBA Live 2004 and it works very well, but around 2006 my PC got a bit outdated for gaming  Just want to be sure so that I don't buy it and get disappointing laggy game-play.

(Is there a demo version to try out?)

Unfortunately there hasn't been a PC demo since NBA Live 2003. I think you'll be alright though, I've got an old work laptop with lower specs than that and I can run NBA Live 06 on it. You might not be able to completely max out the detail settings but you should be able to run NBA Live 06 PC with those specs.

Alright, thanks for both answers Andrew. I'm definitely not a huge eye candy guy so I won't be worried about the detail settings. I usually set about any game's graphic settings to low anyway, regardless of how old it is. Sucks that no demo versions are released anymore... that is usually my deciding factor in buying a game.

Is anyone aware of a place where I can download NBA Live 06? (Paying for it that is, not a torrent).

I would rather do so than wait for it to arrive by mail.

EDIT: Asked around and a friend at school happened to have the game and doesn't play it anymore...

The game looks great! I love the PC version, didn't know I was missing all of these advantages. I'll definitely be around here more... going to go check out the NBA Live PC Project now. Oh, and get a controller. This keyboard playing is a bit distasteful.
