I suck so bad, I need help..

Hey All,

I just played a game on starter level, 5 minute qaurters using the ASA Sliders and I got thumped 96-54 by Detroit, I was San Antonio.

I play the game with a Logitech Rumblepad 2, as I hate using keyboard for sport games on PC, I think I have all the buttons worked out ok.

So for 5 minute qaurters 54 points scored is ok, but letting in 96 points is pathetic, I suck so so much and I need some major help defensively..

You might want to control one of the big men on defense and let your CPU teammates cover the perimeter. Try to stay between your man and the basket and if one of your teammates loses their man and he drives into the paint, move over to block or challenge the shot.

A week or so, but I use to play NBA 01/02/03 on PS1 or 2, but it's totally different now. I wanted to start a Dynasty soon but i'll wait until I get better.

Thanks Andrew, will try that later, but the CPU just tends to drive straight through me, and if I try block a shot I get done for a foul all the time.

blocking and stuff is all about timing

if you play basketball or something then that will give you an edge so you get a general idea of what you need to do on defense and what you need to do on offense to be able to score

You could also turn the On-Ball Physical Defense slider up a bit.

OK so practice and maybe turn the On-Ball Phsical Defense slider up a bit, will practice first and see what happens.

But do you think it's worth going down the Rookie level to start off with?

And no I don't play basketball in real life, but I do know roughly what it is about, I am rusty on the positions though, so will have to leave my Dynasty until I improove I think..

Thanks everyone for your help and comments, i'll get there eventually, I hope.

Sure, you might want to consider starting off on Rookie until you find it's becoming too easy, then move up to Starter and so on.

Thats what I might try, but one thing I find is there is way way more controls to work out than 3-4 years ago, it's kind of confusing. I guess once I get use to what does what and so on I might start playing better.

It would take a bit of an adjustment with the new Freestyle Control that's been developed over the last few instalments. Don't get discouraged. :)

nah. i don't think that works in 06 anymore since blocking a shot is hard. I used that kind of defense in 2005 and it rocks but in 06.. hard. my defense is to only use a shooting guard or point guard or whoever is your best stealer. if you got an outside stopper, then only use it on your defense. remember that you control 5 players.. so use your plays in defense. if someone gets open press the double team quickly so that someone will come over (while you're still using your outside stopper). another good thing with this defense is that besides stealing, you can block potential passing lanes which is very good if you're accustomed on high screen camera view.
another great advantage of this is when someone goes to the lane and tries to do a layup or jumpshot, you can add rebounding power by crashing the board with your controlled player. There is this "bug" in 06 that offensive rebounds are very dominant. what i think the reason for this is that there is a very long delay on the defender's movement whenever he tries to block or when he simply just raises his hands to alter a shot. When you try my defense, you can help the big guys in rebounding. if you control a big man, it's hard to recover and get the rebound whenever you try to block a layup and it misses.

I just started my Dynasty on Rookie difficulty, I won my first 2 games by about 7 and 12 points I think. It seems not overly hard as I manage to win even though it's not by much. So maybe in a few more games if I get bigger wins i'll move upto Starter.

Agreed, but it's better than giving an opponent a wide open path to the bucket. ;)
