One more time, rebounding

Postby nitro77 on Mon Jan 16, 2006 5:11 am

Yes i know there are so many threads yet but i haven't found a solution to reduce the offensive rebounds for me and the cpu. I was playing against the Pacers and ihe Pacers got 10 offensive boards and my team got 8 in the first qtr. I dont know what to do, i tried everything, sliders are set to to 0 for both me and the cpu, i even box out but it doesnt really work. I have read that there is a file where you can change the rebound settings, is there? Could somebody explain me please? :)

The bug really destroys the fun. :(

Thanks for your help

Its the game, you cant change it. Only EA can. So just give up on trying to find a soluion, because no one can make a patch that will reduce OFF REBS and EA jsut doesnt give a shit.

Well, I've actually been thinking of the possibility of changing the jump animation for offensive rebounding, if that is possible, and wouldn't change the jump on def. reb's, etc. So, if you're ready to give up, by all means, please do, but don't squash the opinions of those who are still brainstorming, and trying to figure ways to improve the game.

Well, it's better than none, which is usually what happens in my games.

The file you mention is the players.dbf file in your roster. Many people have said that lowering the offensive rebound rating for all players fixes the problem. However, if you play a season or a dynasty then rebounding stats for simmed games will be lowered(on the offensive side) and in a dynasty, generated players will have a normal offensive rebound rating so you would have to change it every season, plus the offensive rebound rating will increase over the years as players develop.

What works for me is bringing a player to help rebound as soon as the shot goes up. It doesn't produce realistic numbers, but it helps reduce the problem.

Another thing that helps is NOT taking one of your big men PF or C's and jumping out to try and block mid-range shots. That leaves under the basket completely open, and more often than not, leads to one of those pesky CPU offensive rebounds. I mean, I understand that the Rebound sliders are a big quirky, but people just seem to unwilling to actually try and alleviate the problem through playing well, or changing their style of play. It is possible to limit offensive rebounds, and keep averages to maybe one or two more than NBA league average for both yourself and the CPU, but you must take an active position on it, and consciously try it. Unfortunately, bitching and whining is a lot easier to do, hence, dozens of threads on the topic, with "no answer" still.

While that is a good point, i can have 1 Center 2 Powerforwards A Small forward and a crappyshooting PG (but the best I have due to injury) and their will be many people jumping in a bunch for the ball (4 of mine 2 of theirs normaly their center and pg) and the shortest man out there will get the rebound in the middle of the bunch.

This game doesn't play fair.
If you draft on skill, nevermind NBA Live sucks.

I had smae problem and I found a solution. First like somebody mentioned d onot take your big man out of the paint, otherwise no rebound. After NBA LIVE 05 I am used to jump as soon as shot is missed, you have to jump just a bit after teh ball hits the rim, that was you end up outjumping CPU guy.

Talking about off. boards you yourself can get, I honestly think that getting so many is not a problem because most of the time I have inside position on my opponent and should be getting the rebound. I think the problem is that the CPU doesn't box out well enough and it's too easy to get position. Watch it sometime, it's very realistic the way guys get rebounds, it's just that it's too easy to get good position on a guy.
