directx issue

Postby 2manu0 on Sun Dec 11, 2005 3:14 am

specs:

p4 2.26ghz
256mb ram
128mb geforcemx440
80gb hd

I'll try to explain this the best I can...please bear with me...
---My windows xp cd comes with sp2. so it automatically installs winxp sp2..

---live 06 requires directx 9.0c...

---however, directx 9.0c is not compatible with sp2...therefore, i cannot install it.

does anybody have a suggestion? i have tried every website with steps on removing sp2..but i'm afaird to try it for the following reasons:

- it will ruin my operating system
- what winxp will I have? will I have sp1? this is a fresh computer and the winxp with sp2 is the first os i installed on it.

thanks in advaNCE...

directx9.0c is included in SP2 so one of your of above statements has to be wrong. go to start - run and type "dxdiag" to check for directX problems.

that could be the reason why it was not included in the compatibility list of directx 9.0c...

Windows XP SP2 is compatible with DirectX 9.0c. If you got the WinXP with SP2 CD, then DX9.0c should already be installed along with it. Just like what threatlockz said, check your dxdiag and verify your DirectX version. If you do not have the 9.0c version, the NBA Live 06 CD has one.

As for Windows XP "multimedia" edition (known as Media Center Edition), it is supposed to be an OS for "media center PC's". A media center PC is an HDTV, mp3 player, Internet PC, gaming PC, radio, movie player all rolled into one. Check to see if you're PC is a media center PC.

Based on the specs you provided, you are good to go with WinXP SP2. I'm also using a 256mb PC with GeForce FX5200 128MB (Radeon 9550 128MB soon). The SP2 installation significantly slowed down my PC, but with a few tweaks and optimizations I might say I am satisfied with the performance of my PC as of the moment. If security is not a main concern or if the function of your PC is just for home use, then SP1, a free firewall and antivirus program are already enough (as long as the antivirus and the firewall programs are updated constantly).

Yeah WinXP SP2 should not have any problems with DirectX 9.0c.

Anyway, curious101, you serious abotu getting the Radeon 9550? I am using that card and I can tell you that it won't be much of a jump from the FX5200 that you are using.

i did use the directx that came with nba live and the installation was pretty fast. clicked on finish...then checked on dxdiag...still shows directx9.0b...

could it be with my system?, my copy of directx?

i dunno...please if you have more suggestions...

if it refuses to install new directx you've got a problem... format is my best shot then.

@AIx2,

OT: Sorry mate but I already bought the card. I'd just have to check and see if there's a significant increase in graphics performance. I've already prepared graphics benchmarking software such as 3DMark 03, 3DMak 05, Aquamark3, etc. to test the Radeon 9550 against the FX5200 on my system.
